  1. or when pigs fly :pig: In all seriousness, I wonder what "turn around the season" means? .500? 5 over? 2nd place?
  2. Hey, Buehrle getting hammered is heaven to me. Cub fans are getting hammered. I think I'll get hammered :pint: :wynar:
  3. Dusty Baker's teams never quit* * except when they get down early * or when they lose a lead late * or when they are playing a team from the NL West * or when they're playing a team in the NL Central * or when they're playing a team with an "S" in their name * or when their 3 best players are hurt * or when a rookie pitcher is the starter
  4. The new FBI F ire B aker I mmediately
  5. I don't mean for this to sound the way it sounds but did Baker or Hendry actually say that they were trying to spark the Cubs by bringing up Theriot? It seems more likely that they just didn't like Restovich and wanted someone else that was already on the 40 man roster to replace him. So Baker's idea of making a change is the 25th man gets replaced. At least Theriot is benefitting from the move.

  7. Prove it. I know she was in the hottest chick contest but I don't know her 1st name. It might be ermilita or Heather but I can't search usch images here at school. :x
  8. I don't even know what that means....aren't two-out hits a GOOD thing? I read that to mean nobody was getting hits with less than 2 outs, making it more difficult for the ones who got the 2-out hit to score. The 2 out, nobody on single. Mark Grace's bread n butter.
  9. Is Dusty Baker worse than Don Baylor? I ask because many people see Baker's firing as a step in the right direction. I certainly understand that line of thinking but I wonder if the Cubs can actually do worse than Baker. With names like Lou Piniella and Bobby Valentine being thrown around I can't bring myself to get excited about Baker getting fired.
  10. Trading for Cabrera would put Hendry one step closer to his dream of acquiring the entire 2003 Florida Marlins.
  11. It would help if they were ever accurately listed in the program. The single A rosters are in such flux that half the team on the field aren't in the media guide.
  12. No doubt he'll be replaced by an undrafted FA who will go 20-2 the rest of the way then sign somewhere else next year and triple his ERA.
  13. With the exception of 1983 I can't remember a time pre 1984 when there was a buzz about the Sox. The Cubs were on TV every day. The Sox were on fuzzy 44 then went to the ill fated ONTV subscription channel. Transitional fans got on the Sox bandwagon in '83 but '84 ended most of that. Even in '83 people were saying "Yeah that's great about the Sox but what would happen if the Cubs got good?" As far as not being old enough to remember, I'm 38. I remember the Sox coming very close to moving to Tampa Bay and would have if the Mayor wasn't a fan. Now if the Sox were popular in the '70s that's something I couldn't say
  14. It's ironic that Baker- who's doing his best job managing the team since he's been here- will be fired for Hendry's failure to put together a good team and Hendry, the guy that signed Alphonseca, Perez, Macias, Jones, Burnitz gets an extension.
  15. I think the knock on coats has always been that he doesn't have a position.
  16. Tell us what it was like, Grandpa. we had a very hard time scoring runs, we had lost out best offensive threat to a freak accident a week or so before. Juan Pierre came in to score in the first inning. then jock jones got doubled off 2nd with the bases loaded killing a great rally, the pirates then scored on a infield single by joe randa. then the 8th inning came and matt murton hit the ball just out of the reach of jack wilson, jerry hairston came around to score. Ryan dempster came in to close down the pirates. it was great Two runs in the same game?!? I suppose back then gas only cost $2.75 / gallon too right? (this must be senility setting in)
  17. which is why he will trade Nic for an overpayed "vetern" Nic Jackson has been around a long time. It's hard to imagine him becoming an impact player at the ML level. It's even harder to imagine him surpassing Pie on the depth chart. If he did get traded he likely wouldn't be worth much given his age and his injury history.
  18. If the bench sucked less the team would suck less. The lineup doesn't suck it just was very vulnerable to streakiness. A better bench *might* offset that.
  19. RF and 1B (temporarily) are the only places to look for improvement right now. There is no way JJ is going to be here for 3 years unless he hits .300 with 25 HR and 90+ RBI. I think there will be quite a few teams interested in JJ depending on how much salary Hendry is willing to pay after this season. Don't forget he will be able to eat some salary assuming Pie (at league minimum) is ready. Unless the Cubs decide to keep Jones and let Pierre go via FA. They replace Pierre with Pie and have Cedeno lead off Cedeno Walker Lee Ramirez Pie Murton Jones Barrett Pitcher
  20. Wouldn't that be true of most teams?
  21. The Lottery thanks you as well. the lottery's different, I'd contend, because very few people actually expect to ever win. They're just hoping for a big payoff on a small investment, not realizing the actual costs. Casino patrons, on the other hand, can hope to come out with a gain every trip. Btw, has anyone here ever worked out the threshold at which a lottery ticket is a good idea? There are also a lot of people that believe they increase their chances of winning by playing the same number over and over again.
  22. The Lottery thanks you as well.
  23. I remember during one of the ST telecasts the announcers talking about how Aardsma had sacrificed some speed off his fastball for better control. Perhaps he's been overthrowing since the call up. At least if he gets sent down he at least pitched poorly enough that he can't blame his fate on the organization or his teamates that really let him down (Zambrano & Rusch)
  24. And I'd rather see you than Rusch but 40 man roster limitations will likely win out. Sorry
