  1. I still like "the Rake" as a nickname for Lee. I'm sure Dusty Baker would like to remind everyone that walks are ok if you can run. Thus it is ok for Bynum to walk in front of a Lee HR. It is not however ok if Ramirez walks in front of a Jones HR because Ramirez won't run. Ramirez should swing the bat like a man. Which means that Bynum is a girl.
  2. Jim Callis loves Veal. Hill is a lock to make the rotation.
  3. For a starter yes, that line is terrible. For a young, cheap bench player that did 2 things well (defense and baserunning) that's not that bad. I'm not trying to suggest that GM jr "knocked in runs with his glove" but the Cubs ERA rose steadily after they released Matthews and brought in Tucker. That being said, I don't see why him not playing well in his first 3 half seasons has to do with rating him now. GM jr has evolved into a decent complementary player. He'd be an upgrade over Pierre based on improved defense but likely a wash offensively. In other words, he's nothing more than a fallback position.
  4. Here's what he did as a Cub in 2001 .217/ .320/ .364 in 258 ABs GM jr was an ok 4th OF and very good defensively as a Cub, which is a lot different than "pretty terrible". Furthermore I don't believe lack of effort was as much to blame as his inability to get on base enough to make a legit every day player. That being said I still don't see him repeating his '06 production. He's basically put up a .750 ish ops every season since then (about .840 this year). That's not too bad, especially for a team that values speed and the ability to catch the ball. :ball:
  5. Having Murton leads off would mean that they could get someone like Adam Kennedy to play 2nd and bat 2nd. In that bizzaro world where Hendry lefts Murton lead off, he then trades Pie as part of a package for Andruw Jones.
  6. Wade Miller - back on 1 year deal Roberto Novoa - off the 40 man roster but still in org Ryan O'Malley - released Glendon Rusch - not DFA ed until May Les Walrond - see Novoa Kerry Wood - re signed to 1 year deal Henry Blanco - thanks for the memory Freddie Bynum - hopefully gone John Mabry - see Bynum Brian Dopirak - most interesting name on the list. I think Hendry will keep him with next year being a defining year. If he flames out next year or gets hurt again he could be de rostered.
  7. Serves the Cubs right. The idea of adding night games was supposed to be so they wouldn't have to play so many hot August day games. Instead the Cubs schedule night games in April and September so they can make more money.
  8. Unless they are planning on calling up Pie 11 days into the season next year. The option clock starts upon being added to the 40 man roster. The arbitration clock is measured by days spent with the major league team. I have a nagging feeling that not calling up Pie is a sign that Hendry is not happy with something Pie is doing.
  9. The Cubs are getting below avg power from Murton in LF but are getting above avg production from Barrett at C. If the Cubs could find a 2nd baseman that can hit for some power they can put together a competitive lineup.
  10. The Farnsworth trade is a win for the Cubs because it led to the Neifi Perez trade this year aka the greatest trade in the last 20 years.
  11. Viva Last Place!
  12. Hopefully Moore will make the most of his opportunities which will consist of 5 PH appearances and 1 start the last day of the season. Note to Scott Moore: Dusty Baker had 4 hits in his first AB when he made his debut.

  14. Has Felix Pie missed the playoffs since he's been in the Cubs system?
  15. Theriot has always been looked at as a utility guy. I doubt he's shown enough to convince anyone that he's a long term solution. However, given Patterson's success at AAA coupled with the Cubs need for a 2nd baseman that could bat 1-2 in the order, might the Cubs consider Theriot as a placeholder until Patterson is ready?
  16. Dusty Baker said: Didn't Baker get Steve & Chip kicked off the team plane? Hasn't Baker always fostered an "us vs. them" mentality regarding the media?
  17. Did Scott Moore really start at SS?
  18. I remember the high 5. There was a time when you'd see the high 5 after almost every good play. I like to call that time every day this season... and last season and the ones before.
  19. If Bynum started at 2nd he'd be a better option batting 2nd than Izturis. None of these guys are really anything more than a number 8 hitter at this point. Bynum has speed and a little bit of power.
  20. Which of these 3 middle infield combos is the "best" by which I mean least awful
  21. Timely defense, and this is just a guess, is making a great play when there are men on base. Either that or it means playing bad defense to allow baserunners but then make good plays to keep them from scoring.
  22. There's also one other factor and that is that baseball players are widely held to be the dumbest of all professional athletes. Dumb people tend to feel threatened by things they don't understand. Notice how the term stat geek crops up a lot from the old school guys.
  23. Presumably Hendry brought in Pierre because he can steal bases. This leads me to 2 questions 1 Why would you want someone to steal a base in front of Lee & Ramirez and risk making an out 2 Why does Baker have the #2 hitter bunt Pierre to sedond without giving him a chance to steal?
  24. More Pitching Les Walrond repeat ad nauseum
  25. I think we'll be seeing a lot of Freddie Bynum at 2nd base! It's funny how Baker wouldn't play Walker at 3rd because it's too hard to move across the diamond but he'll move Cedeno back to SS so he can play a garbage favorite. On the positive side, Bynum might play his way off the roster.
