  1. The king of swing Glen The Miller's Crossing is named after A glass of Miller Genuine Draft
  2. Cotts still has a White Sox stink about him that makes him unpalatable.
  3. We had a family reunion there a couple years ago. Some of my brothers and sisters went to a Smokies game. While waiting in the parking lot my sister got had 2 baseballs hit right to her.
  4. How do you feel about the boss?
  5. How could he be paired with Patterson if they both play 2nd base?
  6. That's pretty funny. I'm guessing he pitched lefty to that batter as most SH are better from the left side.
  7. yes To me the real question is can Wood ever return to the starting rotation? If not then he'll be paid too much for his production. I suppose he'd probably earn that $4 million this year but he certainly would want more to come back.
  8. Maybe the Cubs offense could get to the other teams BP first. The Cubs BP has done pretty well it what has seemed like a lot of extra innings games only to lose after holding the opposition down for 3-4 innings.
  9. Another factor in the basketball and football vs. Baseball is that in High school it's a lot easier to stay eligible for basketball and football than it is for baseball. Thus a large amount of athletes that aren't good students are much more likely to play the fall sports. Academic success usually tends to follow socio economic lines. In our area at least, there just isn't as much involvement of the African American community in baseball. Our town is about 60% white but our little league is about 95% white.
  10. Maybe an average arm in RF is an advantage. Has anyone seen Murton air mail the cutoff man because he thinks he has a cannon for an arm? Runners going from 1st to 3rd has more to do with the speed of the runner than it does the arm of the RF.
  11. And by getting rid of all the league minimum guys you'd do what? Go with a 28 man 40 man roster? I'm not sure what you mean. I'd replace Wood with a guy making league minimum and save money for basically the same production. I'd actually rather see the Cubs have more guys making the league minimum and then spend that money on frontline starters rather than overpaying veteran relievers and bench players for the same production.
  12. If Wood actually pitched and met some of his incentives his salary would go up. Furthermore, if Wood proved he could pitch he would likely want more than 1.5 million. Surely he'd want at least $4 million. That seems to be what the Cubs pay for veteran middle relief. Add the money the Cubs are currently paying Izturis ($3.5 million?) and what they'd have to pay Wood to actually pitch (~$4 million) minus the League minimum they'd have to pay Cherry, Marmol etc. and the Cubs are in a much better position to make an attractive offer for a SS.
  13. In the interest of PC and absurd designations you're willing to ignore historical facts. There are very very few people from the Caribbean, Central or South America that can claim to be pure blood native ancestry. People of mixed ancestry survived because they inherited immunity to disease from their Eastern Hemisphere ancestors. The chances that Sammy Sosa isn't of African descent are about the same as Izturis winning the batting title and the Cy Young in the same season.
  14. Didn't Billy Wagner go from a righty to a lefty? Taught himself to throw lefty when he broke his arm as a kid seems like the story I heard.
  15. Why will he probably move to 2nd? If this is because of arm or range (The usual reasons for the move) than why make this trade when the Cubs already have EPat in the wings and DeRosa, Theriot and Fontenot at 2nd?
  16. I'm not interested in Kerry Wood as a relief pitcher. No matter how good he could be he's still very expenive for the level of production vs. his replacement. If he's a set up man he's an absurdly expensive set up man. The Cubs already have 2 of them and would be much better served using that money toward a real SS.
  17. Going into this season it was not necessarily pessimistic to have low expectations this season. This team still has some serious flaws which are being exposed. That being said, the current management team cannot, will not and should start thinking about next year yet. There is no next year for Hendry as the new owners will almost certainly fire him unless the Cubs make the playoffs and win a series. Hendry won't trade Zambrano for anything but MLB ready talent. I'd be more worried about him trading Murton, Pie and or Guzman for some quick fix type solutions to try to win now.
  18. From what I've heard, one of Marshall's main ideas is that no pitcher should ever face the opposing hitters a 3rd time in a game and should be held to a strict pitch count. I could see where traditional minds would not embrace his ideas.
  19. Did you mean to say: Why hasn't Chris Elliot established himself for the comedic genius that he is? or, Why has Chris Elliot established himself for the comedic genius that he isn't? The latter. Stupid typing. The paperboy was one of the funniest shows in televison history. Cabin Boy
  20. It's like watching It's a Wonderful Life and maybe this time Uncle Billy won't accidently give the money to old man Potter. You want it to happen but you know it won't.
  21. It's Larry
  22. Eyre got hurt. I remember at the time thinking that this was the only way he wasn't going to make 90 appearances. Theriot didn't start playing until Hendry traded Perez.
  23. Yes.....oh the pressure of not knowing if you will receive 25 or 40 million to play baseball in the major leagues for 5 years. Playing baseball is a job. It pays better than most and it has some nice perks but it's still a job. We're talking about potentially making $15 million less on his next contract. To people not name Clemens or Arod that's a lot of money.
  24. This trade idea was suggested a bunch of times last year. Hill has emerged as the ace of this year's staff. Adam Dunn has an OPS over 1.000. Would you trade Hill for Dunn?
