  1. The funny thing about that statement was that despite Hendry telling Dusty to play the young guys and not overwork Howry and Eyre, Dusty did the exact opposite whenever possible. I was thinking the same thing. In fact I was really hoping the Cubs would trade Eyre over the offseason because Baker has used him up.
  2. If Keith Moreland could play RF at Wrigley than Soriano should be able to. Though I don't see them making this change during the season.
  3. Hopefully he can but he is pretty well blocked by Guzman and probably Marmol in terms of prospects as well as Lilly and Marquis in the ML rotation. He also has to stave off Gallagher and Veal. I'm wondering if they'd consider moving him to the pen but that too is very crowded.
  4. I want the girl from Wolf's Avatar to be guest conductor.
  5. The Wood/ Prior farewell tour. Although the club overspent on mediocrity to replace them, at least they have abandoned the "Let's hope for the best" mentality.
  6. :D the thing about the payroll is it was Hendry who got the Cubs in the upper echelons of NL salary in the first place. I was actually just struck by the irony that the first point was "The bottom line". In so far as increasing the payroll goes, if spending more money didn't help than it can't be listed as an accomplishment. He spent a lot of that money on crappy bench players whose production could likely have been matched by cheaper options from the farm system. For example, what value does Henry Blanco bring to the team that they couldn't get out of Geovoni Soto? Why pay Neifi Perez 2 million to stink when Fontenot could have stunk for league minimum?
  7. That's crazy for sure dude... Considering that I am one of perhaps 3 Cub fans within 100 miles of here it is pretty zany but I've always been one for this kind of no holds barred hijynx. :D
  8. I'm not sure but Soto may be banged up. It seems from a casual look at the box scores like Hill has been doing more of the catching lately while Soto has been PH.
  9. When the Cubs win the world series I'm going to come to school the next day in full uniform including cleats
  10. The Cubs poor track record in the draft has led more to their poor record in the MLB than anything else--I believe. Hendry and his scouting staff have not done well evaluating and cultivating talent. They went for too many homeruns--and too many of them ended up as busts. I can name all the names, but you'll just puke in your mouth. I'm glad Stockstill is gone to Baltimore and we now have a scouting director that has a proven track record. In the long run, this will lead to a winning team on the field more than the $300 million spent in the offseason. Who needs Frank Thomas when you could have Earl Cunningham?
  11. Prior has been gone the whole year, how is that a "Soap Opera?" don't soap operas have twists and surprises? What could be easier to predict than Wood and Prior being hurt? haha, this really would be an awful soap opera. the "twist" was that prior sort of tried to pitch in spring training, but everybody saw that he still sucked and eventually he died like every other year. Now if he comes back from the dead- that would be a soap opera.
  12. Prior has been gone the whole year, how is that a "Soap Opera?" don't soap operas have twists and surprises? What could be easier to predict than Wood and Prior being hurt?
  13. Can Milledge play RF? Would the Cubs move Soriano to RF? It seems like an odd fit, particularly with an already crowded OF.
  14. There's also a chance he gets hurt. Undoubtedly, this happens in his 2nd start after signing a 7 year deal.
  15. So after we take out his two worst starts his ERA is still over 5 which is still terrible for someone that is making over league minimum. It's great that Marquis has pitched well. Hopefully he will continue to do so. But I don't blame anyone for being pessimistic about Marquis future based on his body of work in the ML.
  16. Same here. I mean, how often do you see anybody get sent down directly from the MLB level to single A when their not injured? I'm guessing not too often. It probably had more to do with the way their rosters were set up and single A was the smallest disruption. A player that's supposed to be ML quality that needs to straighten himself out can do that anywhere. I'd expect him to spend a couple weeks there and get promoted to AAA to make sure he's really back on track before returning to the big club.
  17. The more Jones plays in CF the more he raises his value. As a corner OF he's maybe slightly above avg but as a CF he probably provides more power than most. If the Cubs could someohow trade him for a real SS that would over the long haul make the team better. So who needs an OF that has an extra SS lying around? The Angels?
  18. I'm not positive but I believe they already removed Pagan from the 40 man at the end of ST.
  19. Then Prior's FA clock is ticking again. Don't care. Prior will not be in a position to demand a huge contract.
  20. Promote Prior then send him to the 60 day DL (a necessary but annoying step) Add Chris Walker to the 40 man roster replacing Prior Demote Pie and replace him with Walker. Walker replaces the speed and defense that Pie is currently providing. He's a switch hitter which makes him at least appear more valuable. Walker is 26 and the Cubs won't be hurting his long time prospects by having him ride the MLB bench, in fact they'd probably be helping him considerably. Walker also has the advantage of not being Angel Pagan.
  21. If Wood starts throwing again in a month, he could be ready shortly after the all star break. So he could factor into the moves (if any) the Cubs make at the trade deadline. Wouldn't this be the 3rd annual bowling tournament?
  22. Unless he's starting in CF, Pie's only value to the team is as a defensive replacement and perhaps PR. If the Cubs sent down Pie and replaced him with Angel Pagan or Chris Walker, would that really hurt the Big club in the short run? I find this situation eerily similar to 2001 when Don Baylor kept Patterson on the ML bench because he needed a defensive replacement for Shawn Tucker. I doubt anyone would complain if Pagan or Walker were rotting on the end of the bench.
  23. I'm Being Lame
  24. You could always just take the Ravenswood aka Brown Line all the way and get off at Addison or Southport and walk a few blocks.
