  1. It is what makes college football pointless. Pointless but rich. It keeps people talking about it for 5 months. 2 days after the Superbowl no one remembers who won. Same thing with the WS. College Football has more drama because there's no closure. The present system has less to do with making money (they could make even more with a playoff) then how to split the money it would make. That's really the only thing that keeps them from going to a playoff system.
  2. [quote name="Soul Or LSU could just blow them out. Seriously' date=' I wouldn't touch this game with a 10 foot pole.[/quote] That's why God created the over/under All of this arguing over which teams deserve more than they got is what makes college football great. No matter who wins between LSU and OSU OU fans will be complaining that they should have been there. If OSU wins, Illinois should be named co champions.
  3. The British were involved in WWII? You know that photo of Chamberlain holding what everyone thought was the Munich Accord? That was a contract offer for Matsui.
  4. Any ball a SS doesn't get to is a single. Any ball that a CF can't get to is usually an extra base hit. The difference between a mediocre SS and a really good one is not as great as the difference between a Rosie Brown type vs. Andruw Jones.
  5. Great news on not signing Matsui. Now I know how the British must have felt at the end of WWII when they didn't sign Matsui to play 2nd base.
  6. But it would be good to know that Hendry isn't the only GM that overpays for middle relief like this.
  7. I beg to differ with you on the notion that the O's are "pretty happy." Mora is going to be earning about $17.2M over the next 2 seasons, and he's coming off back-to-back seasons where his OPS was less than .760. If they are pretty happy with him, then they're probably pretty happy with 5th place. I'd swear he was a skinny average hitting kid when he came up, I wonder why the drop? Mora will be 36 in February.
  8. Richie should be a backup in Iowa, just like last season. He's behind Soto, Blanco and Koyie Hill, I'd guess. Some guys who might be taken are Josh Kroeger, Justin Berg (even though he has awful control), Grant Johnson. Hell, maybe Ryan Harvey. Are you sure about Kroeger? I thought he was a ML FA and resigned.
  9. I'd look to see who made money off that game. Nobody would, a game like that would have no line written all over it.
  10. Jack Wilson's 2007 stats: .296 .350 .440 with 12 Hrs and 56 rbi. If he were free the Cubs should take him. If the Pirates were willing to pay some of his contract, giddyup again. Considering Theriot's line of .266 .326 .346 with 3 HRs and 45 rbi, Wilson would be a sizeable improvement.
  11. What if Miami's only win comes at the expense of the Patriots?
  12. 6 of the last 7 Heisman winners have been QB's. The only non-QB to win was Reggie Bush in 2005. I guess that shows how little I've been paying attention to the Heisman the last few years. Still, it would be hard to argue that another QB has been a better college QB than Tebow this year. That doesn't mean he will or won't be a good pro QB but his college numbers against very good competition are undeniable.
  13. I'm not sure I want to fly American ever again. I'm going to ask them to pay for the hotel room which was ~$40. That seems fair.
  14. My flight from LA was late so my connecting flight left without us (actually American Airlines gave away our seats even though we actually made it tot the plane before it left but that story belongs in rants) Since we had 6 hours to kill we went to a hotel and slept until the next available flight. Does this count as having been to Texas? I was there for over 5 hours, I left the airport and I rented a room. However, I didn't see anything or do anything while I was there.
  15. They can still get him pretty regular work out of the pen. Perhaps they figure that if he has fewer pitches but more outings it will help him sharpen his control.
  16. Should win? Tebow- but they'll never give this award to a Sophomore Will win? McFadden- because the voters always favor the best running back
  17. Link Couldn't we match that package? I know we don't have a pitching prospect with Hughes pedigree, but the Cubs certainly could do better than Cabrera and Jackson. They might listen to a package that started with Hill and Pie. The problem would be the extension and whether they want to have that much money invested in 2 pitchers (Santana & Zambrano). If they spend that much on Santana can they still get a RF?
  18. If Rolen were free it would make sense as even with a bad shoulder he may still be as good a hitter as Hunter this season. I think the Cards talking about not giving him away is a smokescreen/ PR move. The new GM probably doesn't want his 1st big transaction to be paying Rolen to leave town. Thus they have to make it sound like they held out for the best deal possible.
  19. I believe so since he earned his income in New York. States with a state income tax generally have a nonresident/partial year resident tax return for people who earn income in that state but live in another state some or all year. Aren't Steinbrenner's HQ also in Tampa? If the employer and the employee are both Florida residents doesn't that somehow matter?
  20. By then, the stopgap for 2009 will be for Tyler Colvin. The Cubs' problem is that they go into the season knowing they have a black hole at SS, something of a question at C if Soto proves a flash in the pan, no RF and an unproven CF. Since they apparently can't (or perhaps won't) address SS they pretty much have to go with a safer option in CF. It would be nice if they could just start with Pie and replace him with Patterson or Fuld but that can't happen unless they can get Fukudome.
  21. I think it is for Pawalek as well. I agree on Harvey but disagree on Pawalek. He's still young enouigh to straighten himself out. Pitchers also get a longer leash than hitters. Doesn't Pawalek have at least one more year before he's rule 5 eligible?
  22. I like how Roto doesn't even comment on what this does for the Cubs.
  23. Didn't Cedeno walk alot last year in this league? It seems like they hand out the free passes to MLB players. That being said, if they stay in house Cedeno *should* get an equal chance but probably won't because piniella really likes Theriot and the fans would be merciless if Cedeno got the job and struggled out of the gate. I'm not saying those are good reasons but there it is.
  24. You mean it will help him recruit once he takes the Nebraska job or it will help him recruit Benn and Williams to transfer?
