  1. The '84 Padres looked about as bad as a team could in the first 2 games of the 5 game NLCS that year. Maybe this is the official end of the curse ie- the Cubs make the miracle comeback instead of choking it away.
  2. I'm confident the Cubs will win tonight but for some reason I expect Rich Hill to fold under the pressure and Zambrano to lose in a gutty but not good enough performance.
  3. Mark prior could have not hung a curve to Irod. Dusty Baker could have made a visit to the mound or a pitching change. But no, we should blame some guy that caught a ball that Moises Alou- who never went into the stands in his life to catch a ball- was somehow going to catch. Where's all the outrage over the uselessness of the extra umpires?
  4. I think I saw this on ESPN: Red Sox and Yankees both lose in first round. Rest of playoffs are cancelled due to lack of interest.
  5. I predict that I will struggle to stay awake during games 1 & 2 if TBS uses the same announcers that did the game last night.
  6. It depends also on why they are trying to trade the player in question. In the case of Jack Wilson they're trying to cut payroll in which case Moore and Rapada would probably have been pretty close to enough.
  7. If the Cubs and Brewers both lose the next 2 games will they still celebrate?
  8. I don't think I understand why he threw that many. Padres had a 7 run lead after 5 innings. Could have pulled him after 5 and about 25 or so less pitches. Such a Dusty move. Dusty would have left him in for the eighth. Dusty Baker wrote:
  9. If they weren't going to pick it up they probably would have traded them at the deadline this year. Thus they will in all liklihood pick up his option and either resign him during the season or trade him at next year's deadline. I think he'd look good in a D-Rays uniform.
  10. Is this their way of saying "sorry we laid down for the Brewers when they came to town?"
  11. As a baseball player on a losing team, whatever you do is wrong. If you don't hit you're mailing it in. If you do hit you're padding your stats after it no longer matters. That's certainly true. The difference is that a negative result doesn't hurt as much or as long if your team is out of the race.
  12. I don't believe it matters. If the Yankees lose it will be Arod's fault regardless of how well he does.
  13. Considering the fact that the Cubs have lived with Cliff Floyds statuesque defense in RF for his offense, I'm sure they could live with Bonds' defense in LF. The Cubs, and the rest of the NL, will be more worried about Bonds' health to take a chance on him. Though if he did sign with a NL team I hope it would be the Dodgers.
  14. If the Cubs win the WS we can get busy waiting for them to win another one.
  15. True, but it could be worse. Either way, I have a feeling it is going to be even worse for Cards fans next year. Dusty Baker is available
  16. If the Cubs can't beat the Pirates best 3 pitchers then they don't deserve to win the division.. Also, given the nature of the Cubs lineup, I like their chances against a pitcher they've already faced than a callup making his ML debut.
  17. He could probably be as good as Pierre defensively with a little more experience. I could see a team regarding him as a valuable as leadoff man.
  18. The Orioles braintrust is formerly the Cubs braintrust. They are familiar with what the Cubs have and probably like some players that we here don't. How about this: Murton, Marshall, Theriot and Dopirak for Tejada and cash. If the Cubs make the playoffs and Theriot does well can/ will the Cubs trade him?
  19. I used to bring cub scouts to games all the time and you're right, most of the time they were running around and mostly focused on food. I've talked to many scouts and they are all different on what they look for, well, more of how they breakdown certain aspects of a players game. Of course they look for things at different levels, HS, college, Minors, and Majors but they know their stuff. Could they learn and maybe do something different to improve how they evaluate, probably. But, listening to them talk and what they see was and is a very good experience for me as I've learned a lot from these men* (*Disclaimer, I have yet to met a female scout so get out there ladies and show your stuff!). you know what i meant. sometimes they get lost in looking at players physical appearance and athleticism they fail to notice that for whatever the reason the guy cant hit. The work of scouts is the ultimate expression of small sample size. How can they know about a player based on seeing them a couple times?
  20. Tony LaRussa. Maybe that would keep him in the duggout instead of walking out onto the field to whine about every call they don't get.
  21. Like that one guy that voted against war with Japan after Pearl Harbor I voted for the Marquis d Sad. I'll be shocked if anyone other than Zambrano or Lilly gets even 1 vote.
  22. Maybe not, but between him and Gallagher they ought to be able to get through 1 game to keep from potentially disurpting 3 other games. This is the kind of move that, even if it works out, is still a dumb idea.
  23. Wouldn't it be awesome if David Eckstein was caught using HGH?
  24. I wonder if the link between pre marital cohab and divorce has anything to do with one party pressuring the other to take the relationship to the next level. I think if you really love someone you can get past any of their annoying habits that you didn't know about until you lived together. I'd also bet that divorce is more a result of getting married too young, or for the wrong reasons or because you were naive enough to think that your wife would still want to have sex after 10 years of marriage, etc.
