  1. So are you saying they miss Blanco?
  2. I thought he looked significantly larger the first time I saw him this year, and that was before I became disappointed with his performance. Perhaps it's just perception, but he really looks fat. He's not Prince Fielder fat but I'd say he looks 15 lbs heavier than last year.
  3. Plus Hendry has a history of overspending for role players when he really doesn't have to. Had he missed out on Miles he could have gone into the season with Scales or Nate Spears as the backup MI with probably the same production.
  4. If there's a silver lining to the Ramirez injury it might be that Fontenot- out of necessity- shows that he doesn't need a straight platoon at 2nd. This eliminates the need for Miles who was brought in as a platoon partner for Fontenot and as insurance in case Fontenot stunk as a full time starter. This is not to say that Fontenot looks good against LHP but he's looked better recently.
  5. He was in camp with team Puerto Rico for the WBC.
  6. Thanks for the reports. Good to hear Searle was keeping his velocity through the end of his outing and wasn't being hard hit. I was wondering how he could give up 9 hits and be scoreless through 5.2. Scattered 9 hits I guess. No walks was the key.
  7. Trading Miles would not be that difficult provided that Hendry would be willing to pay his salary for this year and not want much back in return. Teams are always looking for versatile, backup MIs. Miles has shown that he can go stretches where he doesn't suck.
  8. You don't like Chris Robinson hitting about .380 at Iowa? I do, but I'm skeptical that he's going to keep that up, given that his BABIP is insanely high and that he rarely walks. I've got him neck and neck with Clevenger as the top catching prospect in the system, but I don't think he's ready. I don't believe he can maintain that .384 .400 .528 line either. Though right now he's probably better defensively than fatsoto.

  10. One of Miles or Blanco needs to stay. Having only 3 middle infielders isn't the best move when you're counting on some of those guys to be able to back up 3rd, too. If it's a choice of Miles or Blanco than it should definitely be Blanco. Neither can hit but at least Blanco can play SS so that Theriot doesn't turn to dust the 2nd half of the season.
  11. It comes down to this: Fox might hit enough to make up for his lack of defense. If he doesn't hit- a possibility that people seem to either ignore or dismiss- then he's a huge liability. If Fontenot/ Scales don't hit they can at least be counted on to not be a huge liability defensively. I expect to see Fox get at least 1 start at 3rd and Piniella will judge from that game whether he can take watching Fox play defense at 3rd. In regards to his viability as a DH to an AL team, 30 MLB PAs would hardly change many minds unless he really rakes. The other thing to consider: how many AL teams need a RH DH? How many AL teams even have a full time DH anymore? I don't follow the AL very closely but it seems like a lot of teams have gone to the DH by committee approach so they can rest their starters without giving up their bats in the lineup.
  12. He did have a choice: don't PH for Blanco. After Scales hits a HR the inning is basically starting from scratch. Why not let Blanco hit for himself and keep Blanco in a 1 run game for his defense? The Best Fox can do essentially leading off that inning is hit a game tying HR. Even if Blanco makes an out Fox is still in position to tie the game with a HR. Why PH Fukudome and not Hoffpauir? Of the two, Hoffpauir seems more likely to hit that HR Piniella was looking for from Fox. By using Fukudome in that spot he can't PH for Reed against the RH reliever in the 9th for lack of a CF in case of extra innings. I bet Piniella really sucks at chess because he doesn't seem to be able to think ahead at all.
  13. No problem. Have Harden start the game and strike out 12 in 6 innings. The other 6 outs are groundouts to Theriot. Then in the 7th they bring in defensive replacements at 2nd, 3rd and LF.
  14. Only until game 6, then they let them play. At least they're much less obvious starting with game 6.
  15. Chances are Mathes is not very highly thought of since they promoted Waddell instead.
  16. I would not be against releasing Freel and bringing Scales back up after 10 days. I don't know what Miles' injury is but I'm sure it will require a rehab assignment somewhere. Funny that Blanco could have been on the team out of ST for the minimum and likely been just as productive as Miles. By funny I mean tragic.
  17. "I haven't seen the Cubs play so I can't make that prediction" That is the Joe Morgan option.
  18. Blanco may not hit at all but he's a better defensive SS than Miles. Since Miles can't hit or play SS Blanco is an improvement. I wouldn't be surprised if Blanco starts the next game since Theriot was supposed to be off on Monday. Waddell is better than Cotts because Piniella will refuse to use him in a close game.
  19. I remember during thr HR chase McGuire saying that the going rate for a HR ball was a signed ball, bat and Jersey. That seems like a pretty good deal for both sides. If I caught a milestone HR ball I'd want a photo with the player as proof.
  20. It's ok because she is on his list of 5 people he's allowed to sleep with and not be considered cheating. I would think that his wife being 8 months pregnant would be when he'd be most likely to sleep with someone else. I think it makes him more weak than a douchebag. Either way it's not good. I wonder if Hendry will try to trade him now.
  21. Maybe we could start a petition to rename low A something less confusing like AB or just B.
  22. we already have a thread for this viewtopic.php?f=6&t=53476
  23. What was thought to be a nuclear explosion in Korea turned out to be a Jake Fox homerun ball landing there after he hit it across the Pacific Ocean.
  24. For some reason I find cash in the attic oddly compelling. That's the only reality I've ever watched more than once.
  25. In the general scheme of things, does it really matter who the 7th man in the pen is? Piniella rarely lets the 6th man pitch let alone the 7th unless they are up or down by a lot.
