  1. I have a feeling Brian Brohm will put up 500 yards against Murray State... in the first half. Gotta love the week one ego building games for the big time programs.
  2. I'd take under .500 if they got into the playoffs. It's a whole new season once you're in, as the Cards showed last year.
  3. Yeah, it was well known that Mark Prior used to sign anything that was sent to him at Wrigley Field as long as it had a return envelope included (sometimes even without it). A friend of a friend of mine actually took a really cool picture with his camera and had it developed into an 8 x 10. It's Prior and Wood standing on the field talking at sunset. He sent it in, and both Prior and Wood signed it.
  4. Man, when it rains, it pours...
  5. I won't defend steroid use, but I won't condemn Bonds for it either (I will however condemn him for being a jack@$$), mainly because I was cheering for Sosa when he was hitting 60+ through those years. They have the same cloud over their heads. A lot of people are at fault for steroids becoming what they did in baseball, including major league baseball itself. Now they're being forced to deal with the problem they helped create. I will applaud him tonight. Steroids or not, 756 is a lot of home runs, and he still had to hit the ball. In a few years, I might look at tonight a little differently though.
  6. I honestly don't think he'll play another year. I think he'll play very sparingly from now on, and he'll announce he's retiring at years end just days before his last home game in San Francisco. He'll then go out with a huge, gaudy, overdone ceremony on the field, and that will be it. Just my opinion on how things will play out.
  7. I honestly thought the video was going to be from Selig. Hank Aaron threw me for a loop. It was a classy gesture by Hammerin' Hank to congratulate Bonds, even if he didn't mean a word of it.
  8. I must say, I was REALLY surprised by the Hank Aaron video.
  9. That's a BIT of hyperbole there, my friend. Think of how many times you've seen the clip of Hank Aaron's record breaking home run. I'm not putting Bonds hit on par with 9/11 or the moon landing, but I'm saying that whether you like it or not, this was a historic night. And you will see that clip quite often in the future... until ARod breaks it.
  10. Congrats Barry. Whether or not your felt something when you saw it, you still saw a part of history. That could go down as a great moment in baseball, or one of the most infamous moments in sports. Only time will tell. At least you can now say you saw it when it happened, just like many of us can with 9/11, and many others can with the moon landing.
  11. Your new avatar is awesome, by the way. I was thinking the same thing. I'm also curious what his slider looks like. I'd like to see a lefty replacement for Ohman...
  12. I understand what Derwood is saying. Wood used to be one of the faces of this organization. Him, along with Prior and Sosa were icons on the Cubs. This team is completely different that what it was when he was healthy and firing. So many new faces, new attitude, it was kind of weird seeing him with this new group of guys. Hell, for most of this year, I forgot Kerry Wood even is a Cub. I was cheering my ass off when he came out though. But I was biting my nails the whole inning hoping he had a great debut so the crowd would stick by him. The last thing the Cubs needed would be to have that great ovation only to have him give up 4 runs in his first inning. That would've been brutal.
  13. Makes me wonder if he walked out on them too...
  14. Soriano isn't really that good of a leadoff hitter anyways. Losing him sucks, but sadly, it doesn't hurt as much as you would think losing a player making as much as he does would. I know. It's just another hurdle the Cubs will have to clear while trying to win the central. I'm just in a bad mood about it all. Outside of Wood's inning tonight, there wasn't much to cheer for on the Cubs side, and the entire game had an ominous feel to it that was kind of frightening.
  15. I see it as very bad. Anytime you lose your all-star left fielder and lead off hitter, it's not a good thing. Can the Cubs still win? I think so, but I'm curious to see who Lou is going to bat leadoff now.
  16. He threw a couple curve balls that were just filthy. Good to see him back. I stood and cheered when he was out there, and I was alone in my living room. John Miller ruined a great Cub moment by saying the ovation was for Glavine though. He corrected himself and they showed the Wood ovation after the commercials, but I was upset by that, because I wanted to see how the crowd greeted him. I was at the game yesterday praying he'd get in, but it just wasn't in the cards apparently.
  17. Yeah, they've made a LOT of mistakes today calling players by the wrong names, or wrong teams. It was really starting to get annoying after the first few. EDIT: They also said the Cubs still had Izturis earlier. They corrected themselves an inning later, it was still annoying.
  18. I wish I could vote for 2, cause I'd like to see both Soto and Pie in the bigs.
  19. I haven't read through this thread yet because, well, it's 26 pages long. I just wanted to say one thing: Welcome back Kid K.
  20. Yeah, those ads are everywhere. They made sure to flood the Red Line with them because it's the only train that goes to both stadiums. A lot of them have been drawn on by now. My personal favorite was the guy that wrote, "You can't win another World Series from last place."
  21. It'd be nice if it were Marshall. :D
  22. With a very large smile on my face, for the first time in a long time.
  23. It's a great feeling. We're one up in the loss column too. Now lets see if we can put some distance on the Brewers and Cardinals.
  24. Yeah, that Glavine game worries me. I'll also bet that he wins his 300th game on the same day that either Bonds or ARod hits their milestone home run. Baseball is just weird like that when it comes to milestones.
  25. damn, I thought a google images search of relevant terms was my own little internet secret ;) I honestly was just feeling too lazy to do it myself. Thanks guys.
