  1. I went by the stadium earlier today, and for those who haven't seen it, the graffiti said "Sox Pride." (Pretty sure it said pride. The second word was tough to make out from the cab. But the three people with me all saw what I did.
  2. Wow. Very sly Philly. I wanted to see him go back to Texas (or bump his head one day and decide to take a one million dollar contract with the Cubs), but I guess this is better than him going to Boston or New York.
  3. Per Rotoworld: SI.com's Jon Heyman is reporting that the Red Sox and Adrian Gonzalez could not agree to a contract extension and the deal has fallen through. Boston reportedly couldn't come to an agreement with Gonzalez on a contract extension by Sunday afternoon's deadline. Earlier reports said the Red Sox might go through with the trade regardless, but Heyman believes the trade has fallen through. Boston and San Diego agreed to a trade on Thursday that sent Gonzalez to the Red Sox and prospects Casey Kelly, Anthony Rizzo, Reymond Fuentes and a PTBNL to the Padres. The Padres said Thursday that they wouldn't field more offers for Gonzalez if this trade fell through.
  4. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/top-posts/report-adam-dunn-to-white-sox-talks-heating-up.php I guess Kenny Williams shot down the Dunn for Beckham straight up deal. I hope it falls through. I like Adam Dunn. Personally, I think he should stay in Washington and help that team rebuild. But I guess getting a couple of good prospects might do a better job.
  5. I guess it worked for him though. I think he gets 5 million for going over 600. Then he gets 5 million for every milestone after that. (i.e.- going over 700, passing Babe Ruth, tying Bonds, passing Bonds, etc.)
  6. I know I don't care one bit. The second he got outed for 'roids, I stopped caring about ARod's career because no one will ever know how many home runs he REALLY hit.
  7. I thought the whole reason the Cubs weren't on WGN as much anymore was because WGN is owned by the Tribune Company. The Tribune Company doesn't own the Cubs anymore. Is there more to it?
  8. Apparently he hit 90 mph during that showcase leading scouts to say the whole session was "just alright." You can't blame the guy for giving it one last shot though. When your whole life has been baseball, it can't be easy to let go. Especially when you have that much talent.
  9. Last year's NL participants weren't too bad. Pujols, Prince, Adrian Gonzalez, and Ryan Howard. But sadly I think we'll see less and less "stars" in these contests as years go on. Teams seem to see a lot of players as investments now. So I'm sure they get a lot of feedback from the front office on whether or not they can compete in a silly contest that some feel messes up their swing. Also, they don't want to risk an injury to their 20 million dollar man. Didn't Cano drop out this year after pressure from the Yankees? (And then Swisher stepped in, which I thought was weird) And unfortunately, the casual fan and the general public probably don't care about a skills competition. They'd much rather see 500 foot home runs than see if a guy can throw from center field and hit a target at home plate. But I agree, make it so you don't have to be an all star to compete. Just get the best mashers out there that are willing to do it. I'd personally love to see Adam Dunn in one of these contests. I'm not a huge fan of the home run derby, but I always watch. I had just about given up on it until Josh Hamilton put on that show 2 years ago. That moment gave the contest enough credibility with me for at least a few years.
  10. Yeah, anytime anything is detached, it's really not good. I think he's at least done for the year.
  11. The umpires' and players' reactions when they saw that man fall were gut wrenching enough.
  12. Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Kansas City, The White Sox, and Atlanta. That's why he shouldn't get in. He's only faced one team that I'd call "good", and they beat him. The Nationals set him up to succeed in his first few starts by timing it perfectly against one of the easiest stretches of any team's schedule. Sure he's been good. But 2-2 with a 2.27 ERA isn't all-star worthy. Count me in on the side that believes it's about the numbers you put up that year, not about what your name is. The fan voting throws this off because many people either only vote for names they know, vote for people they know aren't deserving, or flat out vote for the worst players they can in order to help their league win. If you want to make it count for home field advantage, take fan voting out of the equation. It'd be a shame to put Strasburg in over a guy like Jaime Garcia, who has an identical ERA, and has done well all season instead of against 5 hand picked teams.
  13. He was playing in to protect against the bunt. They're showing a replay of the game now, and that was the first thing Brenley mentioned. You don't have a lot of range when you play in, so if it's not hit right at you, no matter how slow it's hit, it's tough to get to. Even if he dives, I don't think he makes that play. I'm curious how long this suspension will last. I guess they asked Hendry about sending Z to anger management classes and Hendry said there's no point. They tried that already and it didn't work. They also interviewed a lot of the players after the game. Many said they didn't see what happened. Soriano flat out said he's sick of Zambrano's antics. Lee refused to talk about it. Morale apparently at an extreme low, to no one's surprise.
  14. Emotion is fine, but that was ridiculous. He should've been mad at himself for lacing one down the middle to a free swinger with an 0-2 count, not at Derrek Lee. I think this could be the end of Carlos in Chicago. Don't let the door hit you in the ass...
  15. and also admits to using them himself for most of this career. Took him long enough to come clean. But without a shred of evidence, it's going to be tough to sway public opinion of Lance Armstrong. http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/cycling/news/story?id=5203604
  16. Yep. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=5199380&campaign=rss&source=twitter&ex_cid=Twitter_espn_5199380
  17. Surprising, but it looks like the manager was fed up with him. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5196674
  18. My God, that guy is just flat out cursed.
  19. I could have sworn there's a video of this happening out there somewhere. Maybe I dreamed it because of how awesome it sounds.
  20. Actually, he was tasered by a police officer. And the Philadelphia police department has already come out saying he was well within their guidelines to taser this person. They claim he did nothing wrong. He was trying to arrest a suspect who was trying to flee. You're telling me you wouldn't expect to be tasered if you ran from a cop who was trying to arrest you? Just because it was on a baseball field doesn't change the facts.
  21. Thankfully its not much of one. There's been quite a few people calling it incredibly excessive and dangerous on other websites. They're saying tasers can be fatal even to healthy young people. Guess what, so can a clothesline from an angry security guard. My honest opinion? I'm fine with it. He was tasered by a police officer while committing a felony (at least it's a felony in Chicago, not sure about Philly). If that's not enough, he was evading law enforcement (resisting arrest). I think the first thing they teach at the academy is that if someone is resisting arrest, you do anything in your power to gain control over that person. And yeah, he was running around like an idiot and looked harmless, but you never know where that could have led. He could have run around for a while, then suddenly pulled out a gun from his waistband. Ask Monica Seles if she's okay with him being tasered. BTW, one of my new favorite pictures... http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/Phillies%20fan%20taser.jpg
  22. He has been bad, but he put together a pretty solid game tonight. 7 strong innings, and I guess his velocity was in the 94-95 range (according to Baseball Tonight).
  23. http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/36929673/ns/sports-baseball/ Excessive force? Maybe. But I think it's hilarious. If you don't want to be tasered, don't run onto the field and delay the game. 30,000+ people came to see a ballgame, not your dumb @$$.
  24. Hahaha, that's great. I guarantee you there were probably ten bottles of Pepto in his locker the next morning thanks to his teammates.
  25. I think there are a few teams that are doing this. Apparently each field has their own slightly different mix (which is probably bs). Here's the Fenway Park version. http://lawn-and-garden.hardwarestore.com/77-497-grass-seed/fenway-park-grass-seed-mix-127497.aspx
