  1. Yeah, you gotta figure with all the money in that clubhouse, someone would be willing to help him out. Saw that Xavier Nady is trying to find an apartment in New York for the season, but he can't get one because he can't put a credit card down because the accounts were all frozen.
  2. I think I understand Ozzie pretty well.
  3. I miss him already. I hope he dominates the AL. Class act through and through
  4. Good for him. I hope he finally gets healthy and gets back to the majors someday. It's a shame to see all that talent be ruined by injuries.
  5. I'm alright with this as long as Hendry includes some sort of injury clause or games played scenario into the contract. If we can just land a decent starter now to fill out the rotation (I'd prefer that his name rhymed with Schmeavy, but I know it's not likely), I won't hate this offseason as much as I did yesterday.
  6. Wow, Colorado should be thankful they installed that humidor. Otherwise it'd be batting practice every 5th day.
  7. I hope he's right too. But I don't want to hear another columnist say, "The Peavy deal is essentially complete", only to find out it was all a pipedream. It's always such a letdown.
  8. I wish they'd just let the Peavy talk die. No point in getting our hopes up. Also, neither guy is a very reliable source. conflicting reports: per Rotoworld: ESPN's Steve Phillips is reporting that the Cubs are close to sending Jason Marquis to the Rockies for Luis Vizcaino. Some cash almost certainly would be involved as well. This is a lot more about the Cubs wanting to dump Marquis than it is any desire for Vizcaino. With an open rotation spot, they could well enter the mix for Derek Lowe or Randy Wolf. It seems unlikely that the Jake Peavy talks will be revisited.
  9. Rotoworld is running with it too. I don't know how much stock I'd put into it though. This is the first I've heard of the Cubs being interested in Lowe.
  10. For a probable number five starter, I think randy johnson would work just fine
  11. Even Peavy is frustrated that the deal couldn't get done. (according to rotoworld anyway) I should've known not to get excited about the Cubs after all these years, but I guess I just can't help it. I know it's not, but I'm praying this is just a negotiating tactic by Hendry to get Towers to realize he's between a rock and a hard place, and that he needs to deal Peavy for the players Hendry was willing to give up. :pig:
  12. Thoughts? I think he should win it, but I'm sure there are haters I'm pulling for Bradford. In my opinion he's the better quarterback, while Tebow is the better fullback. EDIT: How is f-u-l-l-b-a-c-k blocked by the filter??? Is it a new swear word and I wasn't informed?
  13. Exactly. The only reason I wouldn't be sad about giving up Dero would be that it's highly likely that last year was a career year. I like Dero a lot, but if it's going to land us Jake Peavy, I'll be okay with it. Even though I don't think Peavy will be as good outside of Petco, he's still one of the best pitchers in the game.
  14. And it also says to smaller schools, "it doesn't matter if you go undefeated, you probably won't be given a fair shot."
  15. Who else would you prefer? 1 loss Boise State and Ball State teams that played your high school among other terrible teams? 2 loss TCU or BYU from the Mountain West? 3 loss Georgia or Georgia Tech who couldn't win their respective divisions? 3 loss Oregon or Michigan State(who OSU beat)? Undefeated Boise State or one loss Texas Tech seem like better options. TT played a Big 12 schedule and only lost to OU (granted it wasn't pretty). Although i'm not positive, but I don't think three teams from the same conference can go to the BCS. I just don't think Ohio State is deserving. They lost both times they went up against BCS caliber teams. But they travel well and bring in money, so here we are.
  16. Two loss Ohio $tate getting a BCS bid is proof of what's wrong with college football.
  17. I think he'll get in pretty easily on the first ballot. Like him or not, he's worthy of it.
  18. If Marmol is closing, I see a lot of 2 inning saves out of him.
  19. I have nothing to base this on other than knowing Kerry's love for the Cubs and this city, but I highly doubt we'll see Kerry Wood in anything other than a Cubs uniform next year.
  20. this thread might have just inspired me to make a Josh Hamilton for MVP sig.
  21. Instructions for getting over the Cubs 2008 season: Fill glass. Consume contents. Repeat. http://bcmblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/jack_daniels.jpg I know they're not out of it yet, but I pretty much felt like the season ended right when Loney's grand slam hit the bleachers yesterday.
  22. get out while you still can, there's still time. don't be like the rest of us I have a good friend who is a Cubs fan. Its odd that I would be interested in a club that seems to rip the heart out of its fans continuously. However, I just love the Cubs culture. I have never experienced that in my life and I am drawn to it. If you saw the look of dejection on all of our faces right now, you'd have second thoughts about being drawn to it. And yet year after year you all keep coming back. THAT is what I want. Sure, I want to follow a team that wins the World Series. We all do. But how many teams have fans that keep coming back. Year after year. No matter what happens? THAT is baseball. THAT is what makes this all worthwhile. Wiley Coyote kept coming back too. You saw how that worked out for him...

  24. It should be real interesting to see if they even bother showing up to LA, or if they just go through the motions so they can start their vacations. No one on that field looked like they wanted to win tonight except for Carlos Zambrano. I feel bad for him, he pitched a hell of a game. But if your teammates don't want to help you out, what's the point
  25. If you value your sanity, you'd rethink taking the Cubs as one of your teams. They find new and interesting ways to rip your heart out every single year. I honestly wish I was born a math nerd or something, at least that way I wouldn't have to deal with the annual bout of depression brought on by bleeding Cubbie blue. And no, that's not a play off my screen name. It's just true.
