  1. He already accused the Rangers of doing it a few years ago. Yeah, that's why this feels like something he'd be involved in. Anyone that can accuse a team of cheating by turning on and off different lights in the stadium, and then turn around and accuse Greg Maddux of cheating seriously has some conspiracy issue theories.
  2. This has Mark Beurhle written all over it...
  3. The DH rule is the answer to a problem that doesn't exist anymore (run scoring). Get rid of it.
  4. Is anyone else waiting for Ozzie to order one of his pitchers to throw at the Cubs today? I would not be surprised to see him try to instigate a brawl or something. He can't beat at baseball, so why not try to beat them at a bar fight. What was the name of the pitcher he sent down to the minors because the guy wouldn't throw at a hitter when ordered?
  5. I'm not so sure about that. I think if everyone ignored them, they'd just get louder and more offensive until people noticed them. It's like a 4 year old throwing a tantrum, although I'm pretty sure the 4 year old would do it with far more class.
  6. I ran track in college, so that is why I'm always looking forward to the Olympics. It's basically the Super Bowl for track athletes. It's the one time where the whole world is watching, and people actually know some track names for good reasons instead of for steroids or EPO. And this is the one time I enjoy watching NBA players. I'm always curious to see if stars can actually play together when you get that many on one team. Most of those guys are used to being the go-to guy on their team, so it's fun to see how they handle being a role player.
  7. Should be an interesting series. The Cubs are in the midst of their longest losing streak of the year (3), and the White Sox just completely bludgeoned the Pirates. Hopefully we can cool off their bats and get ours going again. As much as I hate to call a 3 game losing streak a "funk", I hope coming back to Wrigley will bust them out of this funk. You know it's going to be a circus type atmosphere, so the crowd should be roaring. Lets put together a solid game tomorrow and just build from that.
  8. I'm pretty sure if the U.S. were to go to war with Canada, we could send only Adam Dunn up there, and he'd clean house. I doubt anyone would be speaking French when he was done. That's fine though, if the Jays don't want him, I'd love to have him in a Cubs uniform.
  9. This sounds like Orlando Cabrera had a hand in it. It shouldn't matter at all. They won the game. It just makes them look like crybabies now.
  10. I think the DeRo snub is the biggest issue there (at least in my eyes). His reasoning for taking Alexi was that his team needed speed? Wow. It's reasoning like this that keeps guys like Scott Podsednik in the majors. I guess he just didn't bother to look at the numbers at all on that one. DeRo may not keep it up all year, but he's playing pretty good right now. Far better than Ramirez is anyway.
  11. That music video is one of the best things I've seen in a while. It ranks right up there with "Ballad to a wigged dog". (youtube it)
  12. A guy like Bonds doesn't just forget how to hit because of a few months off. His eye for pitches will still be top notch. And like it or not, steroids or not, he's still one of the best hitters to ever play the game. That being said, I'd prefer to keep Bonds out of Chicago. The focus will be off the team, and onto him. And besides, doesn't he have that whole trial to deal with (is it even a trial yet?)?
  13. ESPN had an article up saying that Bonds can't even get signed anywhere for the league minimum. His agent thinks there's collusion because he got a deal for 19 mil the previous year and had worse numbers than he did last year, and now he can't even get signed for 390,000. I don't want Bonds here, but he would probably come cheap at this point. He'd get on base, but do we really need that type of circus/ego in LF? Besides, there's no room in the clubhouse for his leather recliner and personal trainer.
  14. Time to see what Haufpauir can do (although Dunn would be a nice addition). If Micah can't hack it, let Murton, DeRo, etc. give it a shot. Hopefully Soriano can recover quickly. Who does Lou throw in the leadoff spot now? I'm guessing Theriot.
  15. Okay, who let Mariotti sign up under an alias? Seriously. Taking on all comers doesn't make you a good sports columnist. It just makes you bitter when you never have anything positive to say about anyone in any columns. Even the columns where he does sort of praise one team/player, he still finds ways to stick subtle jabs at them in there somewhere. More people read him because they hate him and want to see what he'll say next than anyone else. And yes, with newspaper circulation in general falling due to the instant information the internet provides, he is only there to try to keep at least some of their readers from leaving for the internet.
  16. That's quite a demotion. Hopefully he figures it out. It looks to me like they need to start demoting some of their other stars though if they want to right the ship before it's too late. Pretty much that whole team is underperforming, or they're injured.
  17. Let us pray that it never comes to that...
  18. I look at it the same way as guys not talking to a pitcher during a no-hitter (or not mentioning "no-hitter" altogether). I'm not going to jump into this thread and say lock it, but i I won't join in and tempt fate as others have mentioned.
  19. That was the first thought that came to my mind too.
  20. Not sure if it's been posting here yet, but they announced during the Yankees game today that Josh Hamilton has moved into 2nd in OF voting for the AL. Finally, someone is getting it right.
  21. Went to the game today. It's still so weird to see him in the Cubs pinstripes. And it's even weirder to hear the fans actually cheering for him.
  22. Today may have been the loudest game this year, but it doesn't compare to game 7 after Woods home run. Standing room only, multiple thousands of people outside the stadium on Waveland and Sheffield. I was at that game. If you want to know why the concrete is falling, I know why. The stadium was literally shaking. I was also at the Barrett game against the Cards, and that didn't even compare to game 7.
  23. No... words.... Should've sent a poet...
