  1. We could be playing against the player's children and still be getting our a$$es handed to us. After all these years, I've finally learned my lesson. I will never again get excited about another Cubs team.
  2. Disregarding the article, playing a "home" game in front of a largely road crowd is not the reason your team managed to get 1 hit in two games. You play road games all year, in front of much larger road crowds, and you manage to win some of those. It's absolutely ridiculous to blame Bud Selig for not being able to hit in a different environment than the juice box that they play in. Yes, I know they went through a lot down in Houston, and I'm sure some of the players heads weren't really in the game. But would playing the game in Houston change their mental state all that much? Would they not be worried about relatives or the homeless or dead just because they got to play in their own stadium? It's ridiculous. You want to blame someone, blame Ike, or blame yourselves for forgetting how to hit.
  3. Go out anywhere in Chicago, they're pretty unavoidable. I think they're funny.
  4. Can we play Pittsburgh??? They have a similar rule in the NCAA tournament. For the first two rounds (I believe, I know it's at least the first round), they don't like teams from the same conference to play each other.
  5. I think you nailed it.
  6. They were saying on BBTN that since becoming a Dodger, 33% of runs scored by LA have been scored by Manny, or driven in by Manny. Don't pitch to Manny and we should be fine.
  7. I never really thought of Z as pretty quick on his feet. He definitely doesn't have wheels, but he hustles and runs out grounders which catches infielders off guard.
  8. Did anyone else find this suspicious? In the rejection email they specifically tell you that you didn't win the ticket lottery, but you can still buy tickets over at StubHub. (at an inflated price) I know it's probably not, but it sounds really fishy to me.
  9. I got my rejection email at 11 p.m. Kind of shocking they'd wait that long.
  10. if stoney does that home run call even once, I will lose all respect I've ever had for him. I don't like the way things ended between him and the cubs, but he's better than that gimmicky crap
  11. In retrospect, I should've gone to this game. We all knew it was only a matter of time for Z. This is unbelievable. Congrats Carlos
  12. Ozzie Guillen talking crap about the Cubs and their fans? And in other news, the sun rose in the East today...
  13. tom brady makes my fantasy team cry
  14. haha, I love that yost claims he's helping CC get a contract, as if he actually needs help. The whole league knows what he's capable of, so yost is probably hurting cc's wallet by overusing him for the brewers gain. The whole world knows it ned, so you might as well admit it... You're overusing him because you know you can't re-sign him. You don't care if his arm falls off in the offseason, as long as he gets you to the playoffs this year
  15. I think they're all trying to fill the "sky is falling" void that Mariotti left. Yeah, he's gotta be upset he's no longer writing for the Sun Times. This past week would've been his moment to shine. An opportunity to bash a Chicago sports team? That's Mariotti's wet dream. I can picture it now. He'd say this team is showing it's true colors these past few games, and he'd try to explain why they aren't built for October. He'd say Lou is a terrible manager for running Z into the ground. He'd call out Hendry for going after another injury riddled pitcher in Harden. He'd call Z soft and say he should pitch through it. And then for no reason, he'd bash the White Sox and Ozzie just for a sense of symmetry.
  16. Not sure if it's been mentioned through the last five pages of whatever that was, but if I sign up for the list now, I'm automatically entered in the lottery for NLDS tickets. Is there a seperate sign up for NLCS tickets, or does my original entry carry over? I know it's probably on the Cubs website, but I can't get to that right now.
  17. Probably pretty hard to hold a bat when you're fingers don't move. But like has already been said, he never really was known for his offensive prowess.
  18. we already have Go Cubs Go, so this thread doesn't really make sense. It just seems like everyone is naming their favoriite 80s song. And besides, the White Sox already did this is 05. Why would you want to copy them? The only thing the Cubs should want to copy from the 05 Sox is their postseason record.
  19. No diggity? ::ducks out of the way of thrown beer bottles, runs off in shame::
  20. It varies by year. As new guys come in, they tend to frequent different bars. It's still not uncommon to see many members of the pitching staff at Stanley's after day games. (Maddux used to have his own little table in there. No one bothered him.) When I was at DePaul, it was considered a rarity to NOT see Kyle Farnsworth out at the bars every other night. He'd hit on anyone, didn't matter if they were there with their boyfriend/husband. And way back in the day you could always see Ron Coomer and Matt Stairs at Kelly's or the now closed Parkway on Fullerton. Most people didn't recognize them though. The college kids just assumed they were neighborhood drunks that liked to hang out at college bars. Go out in Lincoln Park on a Saturday, and there's always the chance you'll run into A.J. Pierzynski. He gets booed every time he walks into a place, but he still keeps coming.
  21. With both him and Crawford on the DL, they might be opening the door for Boston to slide past them in the standings. I hope they can fight through it.
  22. Great game. I was biting my nails the whole way through. Lee played a great game, but I almost threw something through my tv when he grounded into what should've been a rally killing double play. Fantastic job by Reed Johnson to get in to second hard. The ball was out before he got there, but he obviously altered that play and helped the Cubs score. Lets get Z going tomorrow and get to Sheets early.
  23. Yeah, if this were a weekend series, I'd expect to see WAY more Cubs fans there then we'll see for these four games.
  24. I had a free ticket to go tomorrow, but I have a work function that I unfortunately can't get out of. :( I'd predict probably 15 to 20% Cubs fans. And I expect a LOT of animosity throughout the whole series. These four games will probably feel like road playoff games.
