  1. this all sounds great to me it gets these guys away from our club
  2. I'll blame Dusty for some things, but I don't know if I can go as far and say he and/or Rothschild hurt Prior. Starting in 2003, when Dusty took over here are Prior's Innings pitched and pitchers per game. 2003: 211 113 2004: 119 98 2005 167 104 Those number aren't that crazy. If Prior can't throw 100 pitchers per game without getting hurt it isn't going to matter who is managing the club. Wood's numbers look like this 2003: 211 110 2004: 140 101 2005: 66 88 My point is I don't think it is ALL Dusty/Rothschild's fault. These two guys seem to be extremely brittle. Wood has more of an injury history than Prior so he is a little easier to figure out. Not sure what the deal is with Prior, sure he threw 200+ innings in 2003, but most elite pitchers will throw 200+ innings in a year. Average number of pitches per start doesn't tell the whole story, I'm afraid. It has a lot to do with how many pitches they're being run out there for in certain starts. Just look at the PAP data. In 2003, Prior made 30 starts. Of those 30, 20 were 110 pitches or more. Of those 20, 9 of them were more than 122 pitches. Wood made 32 starts and also had 20 starts over 110 pitches, 8 of those over 122, and 1 of them over 133. Livan Hernandez, widely regarded as the most abused pitcher in baseball because of his "rubber arm," made 17 CAT3+ starts in 2003 (and finished 3rd in PAP - 1-5 was Vazquez, Wood, Livan, Prior, Redman, with Zambrano sitting at 11th). Average pitch counts can be helpful, but to say Dusty and Rothschild aren't highly responsible for Wood and Prior's troubles is ignoring the truth.

    Who?

    MIKE JONES
  4. Chad Fox says hi. hay gyz wuts up ;]
  5. there isn't a difference. but ozzie won a world series, and he's a "breath of fresh air" to baseball, so they let it slide with him. it's a joke.
  6. I waited all year to use my #1 waiver status. Some questioned why I waited for him, but I feel good about it now i used mine on hamels. i think he'll have more value for the rest of the year (once he gets off the DL..bleh). weaver is likely to be sent down when colon returns, right? he'll end up taking his brother's place eventually, but there's still a bit of time before that happens. Hamel's has already been back for a little while now; all he had was a shoulder strain. uh, take a look at the date of the post, duderino.
  7. pirates royals devil rays every single one of those teams has made a major change (either GM or manager) since the 2005 season. at least they're trying. the cubs aren't.
  8. He looked fine after the 1st, especially in the 2nd and 3rd. The curve just didn't work in the 1st, so all he could get across the plate were Farnsworth-esque (read: no movement) 90mph meatballs.
  9. Ask him: http://espn-i.starwave.com/media/apphoto/c63e5b40-4afa-41db-a84d-32a547d8236f.jpg
  10. i'm not one to defend jim hendry, but to his credit, he was not counting on wade miller for much of anything this year.
  11. guys it's dusty's BIRTHDAY so obviously he can't have a good lineup - his present is getting to play wonderboy at the top of the lineup again! i wonder what neifi got him for his 57th.
  12. if he actually comes in just to hit someone, especially after guillen's outburst at tracey last night, then guillen better be suspended for several games as well. that would be completely classless, but then again, we're talking about the white sox here.
  13. Hopefully it just means Marshall's getting pushed back a day and Rusch is getting taken out of the rotation, but knowing the Cubs, they'll probably send Marmol down or something equally as stupid. after marmol's performance in his first start, i have to think that guzman will be the one sent down. what will be the 40-man move to bring prior back, though? he's on the 60 day DL, meaning someone's got to be removed. rusch? maybe he's being given the start on friday to pitch for his job one last time? IMO, He has had enough chances. Although if he starts performing like he did in 04, I would have no problem with him staying in the rotation. I really thought I was gonna like the guy after last year, but his stats pulled a " John Kerry" (6-2 to 2-6 *total flip-flop*) don't get me wrong, i think rusch has had way too many chances. i'm just trying to think of who could possibly be taken off the 40-man when prior is activated on sunday. and now that i check, pagan is on the 15-day DL still. because of that, i expect that he'll be transferred to the 60-day, making room for prior to return. oh well, wishful thinking regarding a rusch DFA....

  15. well, it's not like dusty put walker in for neifi or anything. of course he put in his second favorite toy, wonderboy, instead of one of the best hitters on the team.
  16. this was a good one.
  17. carpenter isn't going to be out so............ yeah.
  18. my thoughts exactly. i smile when this kind of stuff happens to players who have it coming to them.
  19. Why? His brother has a 6.64 ERA. If he has another couple of solid starts, I don't know why they would send him down and keep throwing his crappy brother every five days. because they paid jeff a lot of money and probably aren't going to want to kill what little confidence he might have left by replacing him with his little brother. jered will be in the rotation eventually this year - i'm just not convinced he's a permanent fixture right now.

  21. wow? how many games did he play in Atlanta? 26. how many so far this season? 26. hmm. 1.98 vs. 5.18. looks like Leo magic to me. the Detroit thing? well there was no pressure to win there before this season. and pressure is Kyle's undoing. lol..this is funny. so you completely disregard his time in detroit because there was "no pressure to win," just so you can make a horrible attempt at comparing his time in atlanta to his time in new york? come on, you've got to be smarter than that. the fact of the matter is that he posted fantastic numbers over the course of an entire season in 2005. i'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that he will rebound closer to those numbers than what he is currently doing, based on the fact that the cubs' coaching staff is completely inept.
  22. even a blind squirrel can occasionally find an acorn. Kyle has all the talent in the world. Unfortunately he is saddled with a 2 cent head. but this obviously has nothing to do with poor coaching with the cubs, right? one couldn't possibly explain his success in 2005 by pointing out that he finally went to teams that could harness his talent, could they? this year is not a significant sample yet, either, so i'd wait until the end of the season before saying he's not going to succeed as a setup man / closer.
  23. nevin at 1b, walker at 2b, womack in left is my guess.
