  1. Don't put words in my mouth. I hope you understand it's going to cost a whole lot more than Pie and Hill. A whole lot more.
  2. I'm not sure you understand the magnitude of top prospects it would require to obtain Miguel Cabrera. Look at one of the other threads - one poster made a very good post regarding the Beckett trade and the amount of prospects the Red Sox had to give up to get him. Not only is Beckett injury-prone, the Red Sox had to take on Mike Lowell's contract, as well. Cabrera is much more valuable than Josh Beckett, so the cost in terms of players to obtain him is going to be astronomical. Simply put, the Cubs cannot obtain Miguel Cabrera without completely destroying their farm system and obliterating any chances to compete for years to come.
  3. I'm not against it. I'm just pointing it out, since the Cubs weren't explicitly mentioned.
  4. This has been discussed over and over, and the general consensus seems to be that there is no way the Cubs can acquire Cabrera without essentially destroying their entire minor league system. A team like Arizona or Anaheim can make a reasonable offer with all of their top prospects to acquire Cabrera - much moreso than the Cubs can. I'd say there's no chance we can get Cabrera, so it's time to look at other options. Lee's numbers are not getting replaced, so maybe we can strengthen some other part of the lineup. What difference does it make if it costs the Cubs a lot in prospects? What's the point of putting out a team just good enough to compete for a playoff spot. The Cubs need to make a move that makes them one of the elite teams at least once. Cabrera might not push the Cubs over the top. If that's the case, the farm system is ruined for years to come. Is that worth it?
  5. A lot of people saying Neifi would get more playing time is if Cedeno struggled, even for a short period of time. That has yet to happen, so obviously Cedeno is going to remain the starter while he's having success. Even Dusty isn't dumb enough to sit someone hitting as well as Ronny is right now.
  6. Yeah, expecting him to beat the timeline back is definitely good news. Hopefully he's right about this one, too.

  8. There's no reason to believe this won't be the case. Dusty shows an obvious preference for Neifi, so it seems likely that he will start at 2B in any games Walker either doesn't play or starts at 1B.
  9. In today's UTK, it seems as though Carroll takes a little shot at the Cubs, though we can't be certain. Excerpts are available on the BP website to anyone, since it's in the free part of the article. Trying to hide the problem rather than fix it certainly sounds like the Cubs to me - and this obviously fits in with the 4th place part. If there are team officials actually sending him angry e-mails about his columns, then I've become even more disappointed with the entire structure of this team's management. Carroll was the first to report Prior's injury - and so they're angry? A little ridiculous, if you ask me.
  10. what was the corresponding 40-man move?
  11. Ultimate Zone Rating is widely regarded as the best defensive metric, but the ratings are no longer made public. this is correct.
  12. Are you certain about that? I thought the purpose of the rule was to prevent sign-and-trade transactions, not to protect the player. well, it kind of does both. if nomar agrees, he can be traded back to the cubs as soon as he's off the DL.
  13. white has been terrible. ibanez just signed an extension through the end of 2008. no thanks.
  14. I think Tony Clark might be a good idea, AZ. is playing Conor Jackson at 1B pretty much every day now, they told him before the season they werer going to try to get him as many at bats as possible and kind of platoon him with Jackson but Jackson has been so good that Tony's basicly just rotting on the bench. Tony is not Lee but he would be a better option than what we currently have and he shouldnt be that hard to get. clark's contract is for 2 years. i don't want him. How much per year? He really had a good year last year and would be a nice stop gap. Maybe the D-backs would eat some of the contract for a decent pitching prospect. it's 2 years, 2 million, but it's still 2 years.
  15. Because Hendry has been known to make moves when we need help? Ramirez, Lofton, Simon, Karros, Nomar...ring any bells? I don't doubt that Hendry is going to make a deal. Plus, he doesn't make the lineups, so don't assume that he is content with Neifi starting at 2B every day. I have full faith in Hendry. It's the man wearing the #12 that I worry about, but if Hendry gives him better players than Neifi, I'm not that worried. what move did he make when nomar went down? he let neifi play every day.

  17. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-060420lee,1,5989180.story?coll=cs-home-headlines wait til next year......
  18. ok, that was crap. "tests are inconclusive, but the cubs are preparing for the worst, which is losing lee for 8-10 weeks" they have no proof of any of this.
  19. actually, i can't believe i didn't think of this earlier. why not try to get petagine from the M's?
  20. he has a 2 year deal, though, and can only play first base.
  21. no thanks. try to get carlos pena instead.
