    Didn't he know about that though before signing with the Surf Dawgs? I have a hard time believing this is something that just came up out of the blue... the original article i saw seemed to say that he didn't know until the day he requested the trade.

    now, on this part of your post...that means that Wade Boggs and Tony Gwynn weren't franchise players, right? Wait...has Matt Murton now entered the "Wade Boggs/Tony Gwynn" echelon in just under one full season of major league time? take a look at tony gwynn's numbers for his first 2 big league stints. not exactly hall of fame type numbers. i'm not saying murton is going to be tony gwynn, but what i am saying is that shooting down anyone who points out something like that is absolutely ridiculous.

    you really think he can't leave that job if he's offered a GM position elsewhere? i highly doubt there's not a clause in his contract that allows him to opt out if he's offered a GM position.

    i like the tigers. not because they're ahead of the white sox, though - that is nice, but not the reason i like to watch them. i hope they continue to play well.

    has this ever been verified as true? Hendry has said it, but he was being hypothetical. I am absolutely certain that Cincy never offered Dunn for Rich Hill, at least not straight up. everyone needs to get this story straight. dunn was never offered for rich hill. bruce miles was on the board one day and said that hendry was so high on hill, that he "wouldn't trade him straight up for adam dunn." this was never a trade that was even close to happening.

    Houston has to have a fast gun. Billy Wagner led the league in pitches 100 mph or more for a few years in a row. I went to see the Cubs play there and Farnsworth hit 100 about 5 times in 1 inning. Wagner was leading the league with somewhere around 30-40 100 mph pitches in a season. How many do you think Farnsworth would have had if he pitched there everyday? It is obvious that there gun is fast. their gun is still fast in houston. farnsworth finally took the lead in # of 100mph pitches in a season in 2004. unsure if he continued that last year or not.

    the best evaluations of reyes mentioned that he showed "flashes of brilliance" that looked like teammate mark prior (at best). i don't remember any evals saying that he had better stuff.

    ummmmmmm no he is not a free agent, and "just as good an overall player" is arguable. even if he was going to be a FA, he is 34.
