    A new owner might be better, but a better owner might not get through the review process by the other owners. I don't know for sure, but I'm reasonably confident that Mark Cuban's bid for the Cubs was in line with the Ricketts but he never had a chance for approval by Bud and the rest of the Montgomery Burns like owners of the other teams.

    I don't think it is fair to assume that Jed dislikes dumpster diving, though, just for the record. He wants to be known as the guy responsible for building a dynasty. I think the Ricketts have a philosophy for how things are supposed to be done and I think Jed shares that philosophy or he would have pulled the ripcord like Theo did. They love cheap labor and rolling in 100-dollar bills like Scrooge McDuck.

    I think they were very serious about their offer. The problem is the offer wasn’t serious. I’ve posted this several times, but i don’t necessarily have a problem with them setting a limit on what they are willing to do. I do have a problem with them leaving their fans to believe they were willing to go the distance. There’s no shame in saying we gave our best and Ohtani is going in a different direction.

    I am so here for the pitchforks. They are the 4th richest franchise that the Ricketts have made a 500% profit on while buying a majority of the real estate around the gold mine to soak their fans. Did I mention the sports book? They made enough in concert profit to pay for Ohtani. I mean, come the horsefeathers on. At some point everybody has to acknowledge the obvious.

    I think it's just the opposite. They wanted Mervis to work on his swing in a less demanding environment. They knew Young was filler.

    Not sure if this is sarcastic. But I've come around to the idea of Bellinger in CF, I know TT says they don't need to trade PCA. Although that's true, I'd see what I could get in a young very good SP. Then I'd work like hell to see if I could pry away Alanso for a decent price. I would also try Morel and 3rd for as long as it takes to see if he can do it and if not, hope Shaw is still mashing in the minors. There is a lot of "hope is not a plan" in there, but... It's not the worst case.

    They are responsible for Jed, too. They put him in this position because they know how he operates. They are in simpatico.

    It's a distinction without a difference. If there is a difference, command is the ability to throw ALL pitches where you want them to go. Pitchers throw balls on purpose. But, they are synonyms.

    There is a block of brownstones on N. Kenmore Tommy boy has his eye on. Can't be using that money to pay for players.

    With the playoff structure, you have to have a special ownership group that wants to top out. The Ricketts of the world want the best they can do at a certain price point. People have said that the money is there if Jed asks for it. Well, the Ricketts know Jed ain't asking. They have their man. It's a mutually beneficial relationship. They can point to all the times free agent spending hasn't worked and neglect to remember when it has worked. But anyway, Jed has a MO. He doesn't mind paying larger contracts, he doesn't want a larger contract for a long time. It's not hard to understand the logic, even if you don't always agree with it. It's funny how the times might change, and ownership might change, but they are still the same Cubs who want to be competitive within the division instead of wanting to blow past the division.

    I'm not going to complain, but it would be so Cubs for them to come out of this offseason with Imgawa kind of like they did with Swanson. Third place, but not a distant third.

    I say get help for the anxiety and then worry about baseball later. Jimmy Piersall dealt with that too, so a player can overcome it. ----------------------- As an aside: There was no better and more entertaining broadcast team in baseball than Jimmy Persall and Harry Carry when they did White Sox games on WFLD.

    Doesn't he have mental health issues, severe anxiety, I think that has kept him out of baseball for long stretches?

    I thought Jed flew to Japan to meet his representatives. I swear I read that somewhere.

    I love the logic, but I'm hoping the Cubs are not going to try a replicate the Brewers' recipe for success. I think Counsell doesn't want that either.

    Bellinger's issues were with his swing. He seems to have corrected it over the course of the season. The approach change helped boost his BA and also, made him a better offensive player. He fits well on a team that needs the type of player he can be. He's almost the perfect fit for the Cubs. PCA is a top-level defensive CF right now and for the foreseeable future. But he's uber-aggressive at the plate. ML pitchers are going to take advantage of that. It will take some adjustment by him. But he's not going to hit with the same level of SLG as Bellinger. I'm fine if the Cubs choose not to pursue Bellinger, but if they do, they are going to have to rely on Tauchman. I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that PCA is going to make the club out of ST and I don't think it's a high likelihood that he's going to be able to produce enough offense given the Cubs' team makeup right now. So if they choose not to go after Bellinger, they are banking on the future more than the present. If they trade PCA, they should get a pretty good return, but maybe not what we want or expect.

    You kind of have to hand it to Ohtani. He’s getting his money and helping his team stay competitive. if he were on the Cubs every one one this site would love him. again, the Dodgers are a really good team. I’m not sure he makes the that much gooder. It’s hard to improve on 100 wins every year. I suppose we will see.

    So is Fields playing his way into a new contract? I didn’t watch so I’m not asking a loaded question.

    Why do people want to get rid of Happ? Hes a better than average LF.

    None of those names were reclamation projects. Maybe Muncy. But some guys figure it out later. The point is that stacked teams can take a gamble. Lol, Arozarena was one of the top prospects with the Cardinals before he was traded for one of the top pitching prospects in the minors at the time. Were any of those guys Rule 5 pickups? The idea that smart organizations find diamonds in the rough and are able to develop them is not born out by the facts.

    It's a stretch, but Happ came up as a 2nd baseman. Anyway, it's not going to happen. The die is cast as they say. I think Jed made a mistake in extending both Happ and Nico, but that's me. If they sign Belli to a mega contract they will trade PCA.
