  1. 1. What wasn't I right about? 2. I like how it's fine to belittle my original idea, but when I retort back, it becomes personal attacks. no, i think it becomes a personal attack when you write "you are a fool" toward another poster.
  2. boy if you're going to resort to personal attacks, at least be right about something.
  3. wait a minute, paul bako hit two home runs tonight??? he hit ONE in two years with the cubs. i hate that guy now.
  4. just tell the rest of the cubs to pretend that edmonds isn't there; he'll eventually get confused and go away.
  5. clevenger has been scorching hot lately
  6. i wonder if joe dillon can play a passable second base. he's going to be lousy defensively, and the right side of that defense will be really terrible, but the guy sure can hit.
  7. here's an idea, maybe you should fire bill bavasi instead of jeff pentland, mariners.
  8. there have been some years recently where the 2B field from the national league has been very weak, and derosa's performance would merit selection to the all star game. unfortunately, chase utley and dan uggla play in the national league and are having monster seasons.
  9. if i'd stuck to my original pitchers, brett tomko and brian burress, i'd be tied for 16th. instead, i've got jose contreras (-47 ESPN, WTF?!?!?) and daniel cabrera, which costs me 108 points of ESPN. just like last year, i'm getting killed by pitchers who are overperforming in the BABIP category.
  10. by the way, if wainwright is really out for the year, then the cubs really have no excuse for not winning the division. the brewers' #1 or #2 goes out for the year and the cards' #1 does the same? this should be over by mid-september.
  11. pie's LD% with iowa is 11% according to first inning. even though he's not striking out much, he's also not making good contact. that sucks. patterson has solid numbers, but the erosion of his plate discipline is disturbing.
  12. closers are valuable, but lyon and capps are on the waiver wire? i'm puzzled.
  13. Not much to see here, but Pittsburgh beat Arizona 5-3 earlier today, and Dusty Baker's Reds are beating up on the Marlins, 6-0. Griffey hit #600, and of course Paul Bako hit a three-run homer for his fifth of the year, or approximately four more than he had in a cub uniform. if anyone can explain why paul bako is hitting home runs, go for it. also, volquez hasn't given up a hit, but it's only through four.
  14. who will the cards insert into the rotation to win 10 games and post an ERA under 3.50? stay tuned...
  15. thanks. it was Zvonimir Boban; the name sounded familiar and when i looked him up on wikipedia, some of the info (him being captain of the croatian team) came back to me. i don't know how good he was for milan, but he was there for a long time, so i'd assume that he was fairly popular. i know it was someone a little older (not in their early or mid 20s) because he was looked to be in his late 20s or 30s, was married and had at least two kids with him. btw, i can't believe paolo maldini is still playing.
  16. peoria's game has been PPD due to "wet grounds" - probably no surprise to anyone who lives in that neck of the woods.
  17. i'm pretty pissed at myself for forgetting hamilton. nick swisher hit 2 homers today. i need him to get his head out of his rear to have any chance. i also stupidly bailed on jack cust, thinking that his poor start and the frank thomas signing meant the end for him. he's now got 11 bombs.
  18. you are correct sir. navarro hit .285/.340/.475/.815 over the second half last year. his first half was more a result of horrendous luck on balls in play than an inability to hit major league pitching. this year he's at .333/.368/.429 with a solid line drive rate of 21%. his walk rate has been pretty low, but he has a solid track record of patience in the minors. he's certainly good enough to give you average offense for the catcher position, which is just fine considering that he's making the minimum or close to it. if the rays are going to sell off prospects for a stretch run or to upgrade for the next 2-3 years, they should look at RF/DH rather than catcher.
  19. the cubs are better, come on
  20. he might not be the manager much longer if italy flames out in the opening round. italy does not accept failure from the azzurri. two questions for the people in this thread who know more about soccer than i do: 1. what are sweden's chances of making it out of their group? 2. this one requires some background. while in italy eight years ago (2000), my two friends and i stayed in a five star hotel in the italian town of viareggio. my best friend steve, his mom's best friend from high school is an exotic car dealer and had stayed in this hotel that had a pool which, while in it, made it look like you were going to swim from the pool right into the mediterranean. as an aside, this guy also wrote ferrari to tell them that steve had purchased a $120,000 ferrari, so that we could go tour the ferrari factory in modena. he was a good person to know. the rest of our trip consisted of backpacking and staying in hostels and mediocre hotels. anyway, we asked the concierge at our hotel - some way hot blonde woman from switzerland - where we might go for dinner the night that we were in town. she assumed that we were wealthy given that we were staying in this $400/night hotel, and made reservations for us at a place in portofino, which is a ridiculously beautiful and wealthy resort town on the sea. it was like $50 each for dinner, which was about what we were spending each week on food. she mentioned to us that she had also set up a big-time soccer player for dinner there, and that we might see him. he came toward the end of dinner - we knew it was him because (a) his wife was extremely hot and had diamond earrings down to her shoulders, and (b) little kids were going up to him asking for his autograph. if i remember correctly, he played for one of the milan teams, and was of croatian or perhaps serbian descent. this came up while talking with my friends over memorial day weekend. any ideas on who the mystery player might be?
  21. too late! and your coming around to the correct side before the end of the "cubs sign derosa" thread has been noted. Did I really? Awesome. perhaps the reports about his approach at the plate that swayed you. high five on both accounts.
  22. eat it, italy.

  24. wait but he was still a pansy for being on the dl all the time, right?
