  1. we get it something tells me that the next game geo goes 0-for-4 will be a demonstration that people don't get it.
  2. by the way, the home run came on a breaking ball on the outer half of the plate - you know, the pitch that geo can't hit.
  3. pitchers have figured him out... time to start looking for some catching help
  4. of course theriot was running... lou sure has a chub for the hit & run
  5. meh whatever. howry's peripherals are basically the same as they've been the past 2-3 years, including the LD/GB/FB rates, and he's walking fewer guys. his BABIP against is .350 this year... it's more a matter of bad luck than bad pitching, even though everyone is acting like howry is somehow ruined this year.
  6. we already have two, and howry has been very good the past three years.
  7. if howry gives up a home run, marmol will never be removed from another game before the 9th inning
  8. country music night? my condolences to people attending that game.
  9. hmmm that one was a strike for glavine, eddings.
  10. see, this is actually the way the game is supposed to be managed... be patient with your starter, but when he loses it then go to your best bullpen arm in the high-leverage situation. get a run for insurance so the cubs are better than 90% to win, then go to some of the other middle relievers.
  11. i'm on the randy wells bandwagon... he could be an effective middle reliever. his ERA wasn't particularly good the last couple of years, but he was pretty unlucky with balls in play. he's got solid stuff and has averaged a strikeout per inning in his minor league career. i'd give him a shot if one of the guys currently in the pen starts to struggle.
  12. would you prefer to stick with a pitcher who is falling behind 2-0 on every hitter? it's a high leverage situation, exactly where you're supposed to use your best relief pitcher.
  13. haha they were a solid line ahead of the organist... that was brutal
  14. ok that's enough, lilly has lost his release point. time for the pen.
  15. ok these hitters are lousy, stop falling behind
  16. wow reed johnson is a great defensive CF!
  17. lol, MLB.tv is still running the 600 home run commercial where griffey says "keep watching"
  18. he's a fly ball pitcher, home runs are going to happen... curt schilling is another example of a guy who always gave up a lot of home runs, but he did a good job of preventing baserunners by keeping his walk rate low. that's the key for lilly, IMO.
  19. not just this year.... pretty much any defensive metric last year rated him among the top quarter of starting third basemen.
  20. rene latchmann... boy i haven't heard that name in forever
  21. Man, I don't want to win the division like this. I want to beat the Cards straight up, because they should not be that good. Remember the Cubs in 2004 and 2005? Remember how the Cardinals did it in those years? "You only won the division cause Pujols went down." - You really want to hear that all the time from Cards fans? there's an easy solution to this problem... don't associate with cards fans ever
  22. grown men should not go by the name buddy
  23. there's no way they misspelled it did they? no, but len said it that way twice
  24. cards pitchers have given up just 5 hits despite striking out only 1 of dusty baker's reds
