  1. these hispanic gents are taking over the game
  2. yet we still let a damn jap play in the game!!! what is this world coming to?!?!?
  3. i've never been so happy to see the cubs go down in order this game has me pining for the good ol days when you could lynch a black guy, beat up your wife and head off to work the next day scot free!
  4. len really has to start saying ball or strike after every pitch, because i sure as hell cannot tell which one it is.
  5. wgn should've made the teams only start white guys.
  6. btw i am watching the game on this: http://www.mayasolution.org/wp-content/uploads/2007/01/WindowsLiveWriter/TheFirstComputer_2CBA/0202lfl6%5B8%5D.jpg
  7. hey let's try a camera angle where we can actually see the ball.
  8. if it's the 1950s, what's a japanese guy doing in right field? i thought we hated them.
  9. patterson's PECOTA projection: 270/.340/.441 i know these aren't gospel, but we really haven't seen him play at the big league level. maybe he will be worse than that, but saying he's "light hitting" and he "sucks" is pretty dumb.
  10. that is something i should have done long ago
  11. yeah, but his major league OBP is just .143!!!
  12. mmmm I don't know if I like taxing a pitcher who just transferred from the bullpen to the rotation with 100+ pitches every other start I don't like it, and we were expecting him to falter a bit down teh stretch any way, this will just exacerbate it i've never thought that you can just look at a pitch count without taking the situation into account. this wasn't one of those 125 pitch, 6 inning affairs. he threw 119 pitches, but his longest inning was just 21 pitches. he was pitching with a comfortable lead from the third inning on, so there was a lot of low-stress, low-leverage pitching, and he was still throwing strikes and keeping his mechanics intact during the late innings. there are two sides to the coin - no, you don't want dempster to wear down late in the year, but you also know that he's going to have games in september and october when he needs to go deep into ballgames. if you're working on building up his arm strength, tonight was a perfect night to do it, and you're also giving the guy a shot at his first complete game in five years.
  13. i don't know that i'd say hendry has always been aggressive on the trade market. he's done well to take guys like lee and ramirez off of small market teams, but since the nomar trade, he hasn't really made many impact deals. that being said, the cubs have a strong and balanced offense, but it looks like hill may be a non-factor this season. if that's the case, they have a serious hole at the #2/3 starter, and it makes a whole lot of sense to go after a pitcher of sabathia's caliber.
  14. i picked portugal to win... we'll see how that goes.
  15. that is good pitching.
  16. wonder if anyone else will put randy wells on their list.
  17. and his peripherals have been improving too. he's struck out better than a hitter per inning over the past month and a half, and he's been cutting down on the walk rate as well. i was concerned over the first month that his good numbers were just a mirage supported by a high LOB rate and low BABIP, but he's been legitimately very good. plus he continues to show good ground ball tendencies. i am eating a full plate of crow on this one.
  18. same here. transmogrified tiger for manager (at least of this situation) injuries happen... no need to run out and sign bonds or make a trade for an established hitter. the cubs have a lot of depth, not enough that the offense won't take somewhat of a hit, but enough to keep the offense among the top third in the game.
