  1. No, they're still in Oceania, they just play Asian teams because playing Oceania qualifying was like playing Aruba six times in a qualifying cycle. I think you're confusing Australia and New Zealand, Australia is definitely in AFC and went through their qualifying. yeah, they moved because they wanted better competition (the oceania qualifying is a bunch of pacific island nations who are terrible, and new zealand) and to participate in the AFC champions league. i've seen a few socceroos matches, they are legitimately not a good team. no idea how they beat denmark. they should lose by about 8 goals to argentina.
  2. This is good right? Just don’t get smoked today and hope englands second team is still good enough to grab 3 points against wales and we just need to beat Iran. If we win today, we go through of we don't lose to Iran. If we draw, we can go through If England win or draw v Wales and we draw or win v Iran. If we lose, we can still go through by beating Iran as long we still beat them and Wales on GD, which would obviously be very likely as long as we don't get curb stomped by England. wales is on one point so they have to beat England next round to advance. Assuming that doesn’t happen, then the result against England doesn’t matter for the US. They could lose by 100 goals but as long as they beat Iran, they are through. Iran will probably play for a draw if the US don’t beat England, but to that I would say that if you can’t beat wales or Iran then you don’t really deserve to advance.
  3. well deserved win for Iran, they actually outplayed Wales pretty badly the whole match.
  4. my initial reaction was "well that's okay, take the winter off and just come back at full strength next season" but this actually sounds serious enough that it could have complications in future year(s) if it doesn't heal correctly.
  5. that was actually a really good pitch he hit out. 99mph sinking fastball on the outside corner. i guess maybe he wanted it slightly lower, but that's a damn hard pitch to hit out.
  6. this is the most i've ever liked yankee fans.
  7. double and a dong for caissie tonight.
  8. from a recent sahadev sharma article on the athletic:
  9. effross needs tommy john surgery, making that wesneski trade look even better. Bad luck for effross though, hope he comes back and pitches well in 2024.
  10. We didn’t quite get the storybook ending (Molina striking out to end the season and his career), but the most important thing is that the Cards lost.
  11. if anyone is looking to make some easy money, just bet the opposite of whatever clay travis says is his college football lock of the week. so far the "lock of the week" is 0-5.
  12. how's this not draw a card?
  13. how come he’s not rated higher? I assume his hit tool is pretty limited? 34 home runs (mostly at AA) in his age 21/22 season is pretty impressive. There’s a lot of swing and miss but he does take a reasonable number of walks, so he doesn’t seem to be a wild hacker.
  14. Canario has hit two dongs, his first AAA home runs.
  15. i feel like it can be tough to platoon guys who have little to no defensive value or flexibility, with all of bell, franmil and mervis limited to 1b or dh. but i guess it can work if you have guys like morel, madrigal and mckinstry who can play a few positions. it kind of seems like there's not much point putting mervis in iowa next year, he's already shown he can handle AA/AAA and it's probably time to figure out what he can do in the bigs.
  16. Paul Goldschmidt and Albert Pujols are actively aging as well. They've also managed to get positive value from the aging corpse of Molina until his age 39 season. pujols posting his best ops for more than a decade after he comes back to the cardinals was something that i should have known would happen, but somehow i did not expect that his corpse could hit this well.
  17. ballasteros has a single, double and 2 walks tonight. he really hasn't looked out of place at all at myrtle beach, which is a great sign for an 18 year old.
  18. wesneski is probably done: 5 ip, 2 h, 1 r, 3 bb, 7 k, 2 hbp
  19. nwogu has kind of flown beneath the radar this year but all in all he's been pretty solid, and he's up to an .836 ops now at a level which (i believe) has been somewhat pitcher-friendly. that swing is kind of unorthodox, but boy he seems to generate a lot of power with a pretty compact swing and without loading up too much from his lower body.
  20. canario so far has a single and a walk in his iowa debut. herz was terrible again but his ERA actually went down, and is now below 11.
  21. koen moreno has been extremely bad at myrtle beach.
