  1. Not to mention the fact that he was pretty much the ONLY presence in game theads in Sept of 2005,2006,2009,2010,2011,2012,2013,2014 you could always tell which game threads fred had been doing PBP for, because the ones he did PBP had 4-5 pages (pretty much all him) and the ones where he was driving or otherwise occupied, there were about 3 posts total.
  2. uh, excuse me? making old jokes about fred was pretty much required. it was all good because we were good natured about it and so was he.
  3. this news makes me really sad. i always enjoyed fred's obscure stats and his optimism. he made me laugh frequently in threads with posts like these: or on the rare occasion that he made a mistake (especially the obvious ones) and people made a joke about it, he always had a funny reply: best of all, i enjoyed when he would start a game thread or post his usual stats when he driving his truck out on the road, and he'd always say something like "Greetings one and all from beautiful ____ !!!" but the place would really be some remote small town craphole that wasn't beautiful at all. i'm not sure why i enjoyed that so much; i guess because i'm a travel nerd and it also spoke to fred's eternal optimism. i found a few of those posts in the archives: i will miss having him around. he made this board a better place and no doubt the world a better place for those who knew him. my condolences to his family and friends.
  4. should do this every win the rest of the way home. RIP fred
  5. according to gameday feed: 411ft for soler 396ft for russell 358ft for altuve
  6. i really want russell to get to 100 rbi, for no reason in particular.
  7. http://wrigleyville.locals.baseballprospectus.com/2016/09/09/kris-bryant-most-improved-player/
  8. 0-for-15 apparently. they had 10 hits, 4 walks and 1 hbp, but only scored the one run. good to see at least 2 of our affiliates playing for league titles.
  9. I never knew how much Reds fans hated the cubs until, like, five years ago. I'm still surprised it's a thing. if you lived in a city that was best known for skyline chili, you'd be boiling with anger too.
  10. eugene trail 1-0 in the series but have jumped out to a 5-0 lead (currently in the third inning).
  11. joe smith's stuff is as uninspiring as his name.
  12. Definitely. Especially if we don't exercise Hammel's option or trade him. But we'll add a SP thru FA or trade anyway, so my guess is Montgomery is our 6th guy, unless he really, really forces the issue. i can't imagine they wouldn't exercise his option. it's only $10m and he's worth that pretty easily.
  13. didn't they have a RH bat to PH for gennett? he's awful against LHP.
  14. that's even better. sounds like he just had a case of the almoras.
  15. wait, ryan braun was nominated for the roberto clemente award??? extraordinary character like using PEDs, then accusing someone random schlub of tampering with your sample in an effort to get off on a technicality.
  16. did he look a bit sore walking off? wonder if it's more of a back/oblique issue. hopefully anyway.
  17. really does not sound promising. [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet]
  18. starting this argument in the game thread where the cubs are on their way to winning the world series would be a way more kyle thing to do.
  19. got any jokes about airline food?!?
  20. i'm pretty glad we won't have to face horsefeathering kirk nieuwenheis in the playoffs.
