  1. 3 hard hit balls that inning. Hopefully a sign of things to come.
  2. he's usually pretty reliable. i wouldn't be surprised if allen pitched another inning tomorrow if they had a save situation. miller is probably just limited to ortiz duty.
  3. time to make the giants cram this even year magic nonsense up their cramhole.
  4. orioles' catcher caleb joseph set a live ball/position player record for most at bats/plate appearances without an RBI in a single season. he had 132 at bats and 141 plate appearances on the year, and posted a line of .174/.216/.197/.413, for an OPS+ of 11. congratulations to caleb on this landmark season.
  5. man, that baseball's best fans account has been retweeting dozens of cardinal fans who keep saying that the dodgers lost on purpose because they're afraid of facing the cards in the playoffs. yes i'm sure they were super concerned that a team 10 games over .500 might win the wild card tiebreaker game, then the wild card game on the road, then a road series against the best team in baseball. it had nothing to do with the 162nd game being completely meaningless to the dodgers.

  7. [tweet] [/tweet] what a dumb douche.
  8. seattle is down 5-2; if they lose they're out. tigers need to win sunday, hope that the orioles and/or blue jays lose, then they need to win their make-up game with the indians on monday. red sox are a half game behind the indians. if the red sox lose and indians win tomorrow, and the tigers are eliminated from WC contention, then the monday game wouldn't need to be played. otherwise it has to be played. there's a decent chance that the tigers will be eliminated on the last day of the regular season and then forced to play another game on monday.
  9. mariners tried to blow it tonight but held on 3-2. they have 3 games left hosting oakland. baltimore 87-72 -- toronto 87-72 -- detroit 85-73 -1.5 seattle 85-74 -2.0 national league: mets 85-74 +1.0 giants 84-75 -- cards 83-76 -1.0 likely playoff format: cubs home field advantage vs mets/giants/cards nationals home field advantage vs dodgers rangers home field advantage vs baltimore/toronto/detroit/seattle boston vs cleveland, home field TBD
  10. tigers are 1.5 back from the orioles and blue jays. most likely they need to go at least 2-1 against the braves this weekend, and possibly 3-0. the orioles have 3 games at the yankees (who are eliminated) and the blue jays 3 games in boston (who still have an outside chance at home field through the AL playoffs, and are 0.5 games ahead of the indians for home field in the ALDS). presumably the indians-tigers game on monday will be abandoned if the result doesn't affect the playoffs. but if detroit needs to win to get into a wild card tiebreaker, or if the indians are within a half game of the red sox or rangers, then i think it has to be played. it's possible that both teams will want to win that game, but it's also quite possible that the tigers will have to play knowing that they've been eliminated, or the indians will have to play knowing that they're locked in to the #2 or #3 seed in the AL. in which case it would be a team playing to win versus a team fielding a lineup similar to what the cubs trotted out tonight.

  12. now 5th-most wins in franchise history, behind 1906, 1907, 1910 and 1909.
  13. grimm doing his best to avoid the playoff roster.
  14. not sure that's the 0-2 pitch he wanted to throw.
  15. man i thought this season was pretty much a write-off for the eagles. guess i should start paying more attention.
