  1. friendly reminder that even if rizzo gives himself a bump up in salary by finishing top 5 in the MVP voting in one of the next 2-3 years, we have him for the next 5 years (through his age 32 season) at a maximum of $59 million. if only theo could have used some kind of jedi mind trick to convince bryant and russell to take a deal like that.
  2. he's got pretty sharp platoon splits and has given up fewer hits/long balls out of the bullpen. i guess it's fine as a sort of loogy/back of the bullpen type.
  3. [tweet]https://twitter.com/jorgearangure/status/804187348573581313[/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] frankly, this is a pretty ugly look for MLB.
  4. is reinsdorf the one pushing to crack down on international bonus money? horsefeathers that guy.
  5. he was worth 2-3 wins when playing most of the time for the cards in 2012-14. last year he was a one win player with less than 400 plate appearances. it's fine, and it's good insurance in case almora stinks. PS, thanks for everything dex.
  6. my favorite HCCF'ism was actually this one. http://www.northsidebaseball.com/archive/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=53971&p=2167288 i also liked his story where he told a story about rolling rocks at a rattlesnake to try to get it to move, it snapped at him, then he got offended because someone told him that he should've been bitten and everyone called him an idiot for provoking a poisonous snake.
  7. 1. eloy 2-25. who cares, we just won the freaking world series.

  10. you forgot one. WORLD SERIES CHAMPION
  11. bryant is NL MVP. voted first on 29 of 30 ballots.
  12. flip out? that's a contender for tweet of the year.
  13. rick porcello wins the cy young. spoilered for language:
  14. that's probably the best way to do it. give teams compensation picks but don't punish the teams that sign players. i would think the players union would like that.
  15. i'm pretty surprised by this. i am guessing that montgomery is the in-house favorite for next year?
  16. i don't think what he said was too unfair. if a veteran player who's been a starter for years is getting phased out and not playing much, the manager should probably have a conversation with him about what he can expect.
  17. his bat control is fantastic. a lot of guys, i'd say they were pretty lucky to rip a hard grounder down the third base line against a mid 90s cutter like the one that shaw threw, but zobrist really looked like that's what he had in mind if shaw threw him that pitch, and just executed it to perfection.
  18. speaking of rany, here's a good read from today: https://theringer.com/2016-world-series-chicago-cubs-theo-epstein-analytics-war-9f1248c44eb7#.58ekfop98
  19. i was still comfortable with the path they were on because the minor league system was loaded, but i was also reassured because smart people like rany jazayerli kept saying that the cubs would be a beast and it would happen sooner rather than later.
  20. kris bryant is 24 years old and in the last 4 years has won college baseball player of the year, minor league baseball player of the year, major league rookie of the year, won a world series title, and will soon be named league mvp. not bad.
  21. i had to work today, couldn't get out of it, so i listened to pat hughes and ron coomer call the game while doing a terrible job of learning what i was supposed to be learning during the training course. my co-workers understood. i had to leave and go for a walk after the davis home run. then i banged on the desk multiple times after the zobrist double, and they thought i was angry. we went on lunch break as the cubs had the bases loaded with a couple of runs in, so i just sat at my desk continuing to listen. after edwards got the first two outs, i had my head down and was about to lose it, but then the walk and single put me back in super nervous mode rather than super emotional. after the final out i went straight to the kitchen and got a beer that i'd brought in to work this morning. it tasted fantastic.
  22. i guess i should have looked more carefully at the image and realized that it's don rickles.
