  1. apparently there are still quite a few expletives to be changed to the horsefeathers filter.
  2. pink hat guy never stands up. what a wet blanket.
  3. wow, orioles were a game back from the red sox going into tonight. orioles were down 7-6 in the 9th, managed to get 1st and 3rd with 1 out but then struck out back to back to end the game. meanwhile, the yankees' (still nominally in the chase for the wild card) bullpen imploded, with the red sox turning a 5-2 deficit into a 7-5 win in the 9th inning. hanley ramirez 3-run walkoff home run. all 5 of the red sox' runs scored with 2 outs.
  4. promise you won't go to any playoff games this year.
  5. nobody should give up a hit on an 0-2 pitch to a grown man who insists on being called scooter.
  6. i feel like we have faced jimmy nelson about 15 times this season.
  7. they're still trying to find the best role for him. so far the role in which he has look best is "not pitching in the baseball game." He's largely looked good as a starter, but it's a nice hot take. coming into tonight he walked 11 batters in 18 innings as a cub start, and his 3.93 era is mostly due to good luck on batted balls (.209 babip despite a 28% line drive rate). the poor command has been the biggest problem, which hopefully will be something that he can straighten out.
  8. three straight swinging strikes is pretty much the polar opposite of a dong.

  10. 114 mph... doesn't quite get him on the first page, but (a) a lot of balls have been hit this year, and (b) like half of the first page is giancarlo stanton. http://m.mlb.com/statcast/leaderboard#exit-velo,r,2016
  11. this could've gone in the rotation thread too, but... http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/whos-responsible-for-the-cubs-incredible-pitching-stats/
  12. i hope you showed them the mention of fred at the end of the cards game.

  14. there's probably about a 6 or 7% chance of that happening (40% chance to make the playoffs, maybe 50% chance to win the wild card game, then maybe 35% chance of winning a series against the cubs). that does not seem like something that a competent baseball announcer should be predicting. Well, that's the issue. Hrabosky is a lunatic homer. Most Cards fans I know can't stand the guy. It always baffles me that a quality franchise like the Cardinals has such a decidedly mediocre broadcast team. Dan McLaughlin is a fawning cheerleader, Hrobosky is an absolute joke, McCarver is a windbag and Shannon is just okay. frequently when listening to road announcers, i'm reminded how lucky we are to have len and JD. a lot of the people out there are just clueless about advanced statistics/metrics, or homers to the point where it's painful to watch them. or they're just boring and add nothing to the experience of watching the game.

  16. lol. it doesn't even look like he was close to touching it. what's he hoping there, that nobody noticed? i guess he probably would've gotten away with it if not for the shortstop.
  17. eugene are getting beaten pretty soundly, so this series will be going to a third and deciding game on tuesday night. tyson miller had a poor start and most of the bats were quiet for eugene.
  18. I second this motion. Okay, I changed most of the common swears. horsefeathers! this is some good horsefeathers right here.
  19. having had a close friend's mother and grandfather pass away since my last trip back to the US - sometimes it is actually better to not know. you enjoy the time that you had together. my friend's mom knew she was dying when i saw her a couple of months before she passed. we had a really nice time with her, my friend, and her grandchildren, just catching up and chatting like we always did. at first after she passed away i thought that i wished she had told me she was dying when i had seen her, but then i thought about what it would have been like if i'd known. the two times i saw her on that visit were clearly going to be the last time that i'd see her (since i was going back to australia), and those visits would have been filled with tears and sadness rather than the genuine happiness of seeing a friend. i don't know how fred's last couple of months or years were, and i really don't need to know, but i truly hope that they were filled with happiness and with the love of all those who cared about him. by all accounts, he was a good man and deserved that much.
  20. Was it with Laura and I where I made the donation to the Katrina relief fund in NSBB MLPOY Eric Patterson's name? :D e-patt is probably wishing he could have that money back right now.
