Hottest Chick polls have been cancelled

Okay folks. Enough is enough. These polls were completely out of hand. I’m posting this announcement to let you know that this contest is over. This is not open for discussion or debate. The contest is over.

 

What started last winter as a rather quiet distraction very quickly became an all-consuming monster this offseason.

 

Not only have the pictures been out of line, but many of the comments were inappropriate, misogynistic and completely unacceptable. This is a family site, welcoming to kids and to women. It was made clear after initial objections surfaced where the boundaries would be -- effectively, a PG rating.

 

However, the content of these threads was most decidely not PG, nor was it family/female friendly.

 

The mods attempted to monitor the various threads. However, very quickly complaints and concerns -- as well as the content itself -- overwhelmed our ability to police these threads effectively and in a timely manner. Merely editing the offensive portions of messages, deleting inappropriate pictures, and/or removing offending posts clearly failed to improve the situation. Inappropriate pictures were removed by a mod, only to be re-posted later in the day. Rude commentary was encouraged, repeated and applauded. Indeed, these threads quickly reduced the environment of the polls forum into a locker room where grading women's looks, attractiveness, breast-size, and other attributes was expected behavior and the norm.

 

It is apparent that you cannot and will not control yourselves and maintain even the slightest amount of decorum and board appropriateness.

 

This is a baseball site dedicated to the Cubs. We all appreciate that it is the offseason and we’re bored waiting for the 2006 version of our beloved Cubbies to be revealed in all their honor and glory. However, that doesn’t mean that it is acceptable to while away the winter viewing an extended series of polls crudely objectifying women – be they models, actresses or otherwise.

I'd have to say that this is a little bizarre... after all, when Heidi Klum and Tyra Banks strut down the runway in next to nothing, I think they're pretty effectively objectifying themselves.

 

But, this is fine with me... Josie Maran is the hottest chick in the universe and things shall remain that way forever!

Secondly, this was becoming a very divisive issue for the board. I have always attempted to portray this site as a family-friendly environment and it was pointed out by many how these polls were a conflict with that stated goal.

That's like what Howard Stern has always said about his radio show. You know what you're going to hear when you listen to it. For adults to write the FCC and complain about material that is objectionable to them is idiotic. If you want to talk about kids hearing that stuff, fine, but I think part of parenting is keeping your kids from listening to radio programming they shouldn't be hearing.

 

But, this is Tim's website and he has made it known all along what kind of content would be acceptible and not acceptible. So, onward and upward.

I apologize to anyone that may have been offended by the pictures that I posted or if my words offended anyone. I thought that some were in good taste, and some have pushed the boundaries.

 

I would just like to say that looking at a good looking woman is like looking at a painting in a museum, or tasting fine wine at a liquor store IMO. The objectivity is all on the shoulders of the person viewing the art work or tasting the wine. Some may find the wine bad in taste while others may enjoy it. Some may find paintings offensive, some may enjoy the way it pushes the boundaries. You know you might be challenged and pushed going to places like a museum, and those that objected the polls should have known what was going on in the threads. Obviously the art work was too graphic for this website and I understand that. Some of the language was uncalled for and I am glad that some of us are mature enough to understand that.

 

If PG is what the website is intended for then the mods are free to make sure it stays that way. Tim and the rest of the mods have done a great job on this site. I do believe that this was not uncalled for or unjust.

My only problem with this is that you could have asked Vance not to do it in the first place. It was obviously going to be a bigger deal this year, since it was going to be a tournament and all. This is Tim's site -- and ultimately he decides -- but I think this could have been avoided.

I know this World Wide Web (or "Inner Net" as some people are calling it these days) has a lot of information on it, but nudie pictures and pornography? I can't believe such a thing would exist.

In any case, I don't disagree that things were getting out of hand, and at least from outward appearances, I'll have plenty of time to spend in the Transactions forum instead to read the plentiful posts in there.

 

I attempted not to be too objectifying in my posts and I hope I didn't offend anybody when I posted in those threads.

 

More time to spend talking about the Cubs is how I look at it. That's never a bad thing. :)

It took me 5 minutes to set up the emergency site.

 

Someone smarter and with a better CPU could probably set one up in 2.5 minutes. Go Figure!

I don't agree with this and I don't think this was handled the right way by the mods. But I'm not here to critisize because I am not a mod and I am sure they do a great job. If I posted my opinions on this I'm sure I would get banned, so I'll stfu.

Other than the fact that it was allowed last year can anyone justify why it is necessary that we should allow polls about hottest chicks on a baseball website?
