Correct me if I'm wrong, does that put at 10.5m so far on the money spent on Rusch, Perez and Eyre?

You're laughing your butt off right now, aren't you??

maybe

10.5 - that's Giles right there.

Throw in the 1.5 that the Gremlin is going to get to be Dusty's caddy and it is an even 12.

12 ought to get Giles signed.

The north side of Chicago is also at 10.5 on the richter due to this.

Looking at Eyre's 2005 game logs I noticed he pitched a fair amount of complete innings, but I doubt he will for the Cubs. Dusty has a history of viewing LH relievers as LOOGYs even if they are obviously better-suited for other roles.

Welcome Scott!

nice job on the pic. maybe pierre or furcal will be next since you already have theirs done!

The third year is a PLAYER option, so, if he's unbelievably good in the first two years, he'll leave. If he sucks, he'll stay.

Is that 11 guaranteed (assuming the option is picked up), or is that max w/ possible incentives?

Why are you guys making moves so early? The Cards are sitting back doing nothing to this point, except exercise Suppan's option. Hmmm, curious whether we're missing the boat or the Cubs are jumping the gun.

I would appreciate it if you did not group most of us with Jim Hendry. We're just along for the ride...and the funeral of the 2006 Chicago Cubs.

At least he doesnt have reverse splits like Remmy so Dusty can't blatently misuse him.

I don't think I like a single thing that has been done this offseason.

Yes, but you're Larry David, so we should expect that (CYE is my favorite show). So far, nothing to be jealous of on the Cards front. Cubs have way more money to spend this offseason, almost twice as much. I was curious to see how they were going to spend it.

Overheard at Rafael Furcal's home in the Domincan Republic:

"They signed WHO? For HOW MUCH? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!"

"Hello, Kinz? Get me the best deal you can from Schuerholz. I don't want any part of that circus."

Welcome Scott!

Why is he wearing a winter hat?

He tried to cover up a (black) Giants cap with a the front of a Cubs cap?

Where does this leave Ohman, who did a commendable job last year? Do we need 2 LOOGY's? Or is Eyre Dempster's setup guy? I don't get it.

Maybe Ohman is now possible trade bait.

Also, I'm not going to judge this signing until I see how Eyre does in a Cubs uniform. I guess all the "Mr. know it Alls" here know what the market is regarding LOOGY's as FA's. NOT!!!!

Give it a chance all you pessimists & overreacter's!

haha, agreed. don't express any opinion until 3 years later when eyre's tenure as a cub is done.

Are you joking? 3 years and 11 million for someone who MIGHT give you 70 innings a year is a waste of resources, period. I'm not saying Eyre will suck, I'm sure he'll be serviceable. But it's a waste of money, and a stupid move by Hendry. And I don't need to wait 3 years to decide that, and I don't need you telling me how to react.

This is a big market team, have you ever seen the $ the yankees spend on (worse) relievers?

Get over yourselves. At least he didn't give away any of your precious minor league gold.

I can't even imagine the reaction if he traded away some awesome minor league talent like Bobby Hill, or Hee Seop Choi, or any of the trash in waiting we have 'stocked' in the minors.

Isn't overspending on servicable old pitchers how the Yankees got themselves in trouble?

But, that doesn't mean we can't start the...

How long until Eyre's arm spontaneously combusts after 3 straight days of coming back in to pitch after a rain delay?

Prediction: May 2007. He'll be good this year, so then it'll be extra bad when he goes down because we won't need address the bullpen anymore next year because of Eyre's dominance this year.

I'm sure you can look back to find out the reaction because we did trade those guys! haha!

Btw we have less than one half the payroll of the yankees so dont put us in a class with them.

Spending a large amount of money on relief pitchers (good but not great ones) is often not a good use of money. They're just so unpredictable. Eyre has had good years and bad years. Obviously, we'll have to hope his years with the Cubs are good ones. It won't destroy the team, but I'm still waiting for Hendry to do something that really improves the team.

We're in for a long, moody, confrontational offseason from the look of things.

Yeah, the Yankees sure have gotten some great bang for their buck lately. That's definitely a team worth emulating, NOT.
