Too bad for the Cubs. Levine says 4 year deal from Yanks for about $12M per year.

There was never any doubt that Matsui was not going to be a Yankee. There is more than just his production wrapped in that contract.

I dont know, 48 million for a 31 year old who lost 8 homeruns to doubles last season? That's a lot to pay for a guy who may never put an ops of over .850 up again.

That's a lot of coin. His porn collection was huge before this. Now, it's going to be outrageous. We're talking... a whole new wing in Matsui mansion.

It's the Yankees, everyone on their team is overpaid, and they don't care.

I'm hoping this move makes Sheffield available.

Dunn in left

Pierre in center

Sheff in right

Haha, now replace those names with three guys who don't get on base and you'll have the real Cubs outfield in 2006.

True but let's play fantasy a little:

Dunn for Hill, Williams, Mitre and Cedeno

Pierre for CPatt and Nolasco

Sheff for Pie, Murton, Walker and a top pitching prospect

Add Furcal and call it a day for the everyday guys.

-Yankees don't really have any use for Walker, except as a utility player, and we all know he wouldn't like that. Pretty good deal for them though, but they really aren't interested in prospects.

-Pierre for CPatt and Nolasco would probably get laughed at.

-First one could happen, although it depends how high the Reds are on the three pitchers

I think the Yanks would like a CF prospect and they could move Walker or keep him in case Cano struggles. Murton gives them a DH/LF guy.

I agree the Fish may ask for more I agree so you could add Sing or the like to the deal but you also have to remember that if they are keeping Delgado they have to move some salary.

You do realize how old Sheffield is right? You want to trade Pie and a top pitching prospect plus Walker AND Murton for him? I don't think its worth it at all. The Yankees get a huge huge huge steal in that deal. Edited by UMFan83

I'm trying to save Phillips...er Jim Hendrys job!

Also, you can mix and match the players as long as the Cubs end up with the finished product. I just do not want to see some 20/80/270/310 guy in right, especially if the Cubs have Pierre and Furcal.

ESPN doesn't have this deal done yet....it likely will...but if it doesn't happen today they've got to waive him per the contract...that would be a nice addition to the free agent market.

I'll have my fingers crossed all day hoping no deal happens. If Matsui becomes a FA that makes this offseason completely different.

Let's hope our sights shift if this happens to making Godzilla our #1 priority.

Did you know that a deal to get Juan Pierre is practically imminent??? I'm so excited, Bruce Levine said we're about to get him so I am pumped!

Take it easy on Bruce. He's a regular in this forum, and is a cool guy.

Theres NO reporter out there that knows 100% of whats going on. They do however have inside sources, so theres validity to what they say.

Stop the bashing.

I believe you're confusing Bruce Miles, Daily Herald beat writer + occasional columnist, with Bruce Levine, AM1000/CSN rumor spreader.

I have no problem with B.Miles. I never remember him going public with false information like that of B.Levine.

I can't believe you guys are even buying this report. The source is Bruce Levine who = 0 credibility.

He happens to be right on this. He is probably right on the Pierre situation too. If he's traded, it will probably be to the Cubs.
