I don't understand why Hendry wants to trade Todd Walker a second baseman who gets on base, hits left handed, and does a decent job of knocking in runners. But he seems intent on it.

If Hendry manages to get Furcal and Pierre wouldn't it make sense to go an RBI guy for second base.

Pierre

Furcal

Lee

Giles

Ramirez

Kent/Soranio/Walker

Murton

Barrett

Kent is a Baker boy and on the market. I dislike Kent but he does bring a level of intensity. Soranio was on Hendrys radar at the deadline and could bring another big booper into this lineup and more speed to boot.

Not enough money I'm gonna make a bold prediction the Cubs payroll for 2006 will be 115 million.

115 million? I don't know if Hendry will get the payroll over 100 million let alone 115.

just seen yankees want furcal for center, and furcal wont rule it out WHAT???

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5070298

this is weird man i hate those yankees

We discussed it in another thread but it's probably just posturing.

I agree. Furcal and his agent know that ruling out the possibility of signing with the richest team in the league is not a good idea. That is if Furcal and his agent like money, of course.

It would be a great move by the Yankees. Sign Furcal to play center, Nomar to play 2b and they'll have 4 SS playing everyday.

and SS typically being the least offensive position in baseball.

ARod is a beast though.

The reason I am thinking the payroll will be higher than the 105 million that has been tossed around is that Hendry knows that a subpar performance by this years team means his job, I still think he the Cubs brass trust but with the money there spending he can't miss the playoffs two years in a row. The Cubs are gonna see some new revenue from the two new rooftops and the new bleacher seats, parking garage and resturaunt. Ticket price increase again this year? It wouldn't suprize me to see the prices raised after the Cubs open the vaults a little bit this offseason.

If the whole point of this is to get guys "who can catch the ball" then that rules out kent and somewhat rules out sori (only because for some odd reason we know hendry likes him). If we get furcal, cedeno/neifi are going to play second. And although I am off the hendry wagon, I believe he will pull off an abreu-esque trade for a huge bat in right. I guess a lineup of the following would be adequate enough to give us a chance at the playoffs as long as there aren't any significant injuries.

pierre

furcal

lee

abreu (or the like)

ARam

Murton

Barrett

Cedeno

I like Walker, but he makes more sense in the American League where he can DH once in a while to hide his defensive liabilities. It's not that he is awful defensively. He can make routine plays, but doesn't have much range and can't turn a double play, which is crucial in ending rallys by other teams.

And the worst of the 4 defensively would actually be the one playing SS.

Why wouldn't Jeter move to CF in that scenario? Wouldn't that extend his career? It would also be a way to stick it to A Rod and make him look good at the same time. There's also the whole Jeter isn't as good defensively as Furcal aspect too.
