Rotoworld thinks Burnett will get 5/65 from the Mariners. I don't see Hendry matching that, but I bet Burnett won't get that much.

If Millwood resigns with Cleveland, a bunch of teams will be in a bidding War for AJ. I don't think he will get that much either.

Encarnacion wouldn't be the worst signing in the world for the Cubs. His stats will be similar to Burnitz's last year and will be better defensively. He definitely isn't ideal though.

5 years 47.5 millioin is a lot for Furcal. Doesn't that worry anyone else?

I do like what the said about the Cubs looking at Jarrod Washburn. He would be a solid number 3 who will be around 200 innings.

Maybe not the worst, but it certainly is bad. We need a lot more than "similar" stats to Burnitz.

I don't see that unfolding that way. And 47.5 Million for 5 years? Doesn't sound like the Cubs style. I would predict a more 3-4 year deal.

But the line i like the most in that article:

"Other free agents: Neifi Perez (Cubs), Rich Aurilia (Reds), Abraham Nunez (Cardinals), Royce Clayton (Diamondbacks), Alex Gonzalez (Devil Rays), Jose Hernandez (Indians), Pokey Reese (Mariners), Jose Vizcaino (Astros), Desi Relaford (Blue Jays), Ramon Martinez (Phillies), Lou Merloni (Angels), Alfredo Amezaga (Pirates), Rey Sanchez (Yankees), Manny Alexander (Padres), Rey Ordonez (FA)

The first four players here are the most likely to be regulars next season. Perez will probably get a two-year deal. Nunez is also a candidate for a multiyear pact, based on his fine showing as Scott Rolen’s replacement. Still, Aurilia could be the best bet here for 2006."

Glad to hear someone think Neifi will stick with his previous talk about being a starter and not accept a bench role with the cubs. And if Hendry is insane enough to promise him a starting job at second...well, no need to hijack this thread more.

On the first bolded point, no, Encarnacion wouldn't be the worst signing in the world. That's because Rey Sanchez, Fernando Vina, and Pokey Reese are on the market, too. Encarnacion would, however, be a very very very bad signing.

And on the second point, it doesn't worry me. Mostly because these predictions have no relation to or bearing on reality.
