Texas's comeback is unreal.

Not really, considering the opponent. OSU isn't winless in the Big 12 because of bad luck.

Ok, you're right - but coming back from a 19-point halftime deficit on the road is still impressive.

Dammit Mizzou...what a terrible game you guys played.

kU has our number. If you would've told us we would've forced 3 turnovers and given up just 13 points, I would've asked where is the bookie. Pinkel was outcoached again. It seems to me as if the kU game means nothing to Pinkel and his staff. This game is so important every year because it either makes or breaks us. Next week is a huge game, if we beat Colorado...all is well for us. If not, making a bowl game is going to be very hard.

Apologies.

No need to apologize, we were outcoached and outplayed today. I just wish I wouldn't have spent 5 hours in a car and over $50 to go to Lawrence and watch this disappointment.

Look on the bright side, you got to enjoy a beautiful day in Lawrence at Memorial Stadium. My drive here from home is 8 hours, and I guarantee you the out-of-state tuition I pay to go here is more than $50, so if you look at it that way, you got a discount.

I'll try to keep myself from complaining about the officiating until tomorrow, though. And I thought the talk was overblown. Wow....

Go ahead and talk about it now. i was over on the Michgan side (sec 110) and the Michigan fans around me were freely admitting it.

Missed the game. What happened in this game that was examples of Michigan getting calls--again.

I'm a diehard Michigan fan (went to school there) and even I think Michigan got a ton of calls. Not that it made a difference in the game though. NW's offense decided that it would take the game off.

But Michigan got a lot of good spots that helped them get first downs, non pass intereference calls when Michigan was on defense, and then phantom pass intereferece calls when Michigan was on offense. NW definitely hurt themselves quite a bit though with the center getting like 12 holding calls just himself.

Posted

Uh, when was NU called for pass interference? There wasn't a single time.

"Michigan got a lot of good spots."

Really? I can think of one, the Breaston dive where Franklin said he stepped out of bounds at the 12 (the ball, of course, was inside the 11); what other good spots was UM given?

Refs missed one defensive PI call on Michigan, where Mason jumped Philmore, I believe. That was a bad no-call. Of course, they didn't flag Deante Battle for mugging Jason Avant on 3rd and goal in the prior series. UM had to settle for a FG when it should've been 1st and goal at the 2.

Look, I was there this time, sitting the middle of a Michigan section. Everyone was laughing about it. The refs missed several pass interference calls. They only called holding on one team. Almost every run, Michigan got an extra yard on the spot. At one point, a number of Michigan fans started chanting "M Club! M Club!" I think that was after a blatant pass interference that wasn't called.

You guys get preferential treatment every week.

This time, it didn't really matter since Northwestern's players lost the ability to catch a football. Last week, it got you a phantom win against Iowa. Two weeks ago, it got you a phantom win against Penn State.

I guess M club missed payments for the Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Notre Dame games?

Love the generalities, keep at it. I'm glad you were there, I'm sure you had a monitor with you tracking replays after every down.

No complaints about the officiating when they missed calls that would have benefitted UM (i.e. illegal touching after Harrison fumbled the Basanez pick that would've given UM the ball deep inside NU's territory)? I guess that's psu objectivity.

Quickly, now. Is this holding?

Oh come on, next thing you know you'll be making wild claims that universities are blackballing you from their graduate programs

Is that some sort of attempt at a joke, or are you just plain being an _?

Posted

Not that the offense or Dunbar were even trying after the 1st quarter, but here are a few other obvious ones that were pretty close to me:

-The late hit on Basanez by a lineman who hit him in the helmet with both arms after coming in late and from behind after Brett already slid and after he was hit by one guy in front of him (well, that wasn't very close to me, but they did show the replay)

-Peterman getting his collar grabbed for about 2 seconds by a blocker from behind after he broke free on punt coverage as a gunner

-A corner on the near side jumped and was offsides by about two feet and wasn't close to getting back on-sides when the ball was snapped either late in the 3rd or in the 4th on a big 3rd down play

I was unaware of some other non-calls until this morning.

The first blown pass interference call may very well have made a difference, but they did just shut down after that. Pretty disgraceful performance, especially in a game when you have the opportunity to attract more fans and recruits. The o-line just wasn't there today (and losing Clarke in the 1st quarter certainly didn't help) and the receivers must have checked out early on.

Can anyone tell me if Baz's second pick was his fault? It looked like the first one would've gone for six if Herbert (I think it was Herbert, but I can't remember right now) just turned around to look for the ball. My view of the second one was blocked by the guys on the sideline, but it looked like the intended receiver either ran the wrong route or just didn't look for the ball.

Well, they really pissed away a really great opportunity last night. I just hope they can regroup in time for Iowa.

No reason to make it personal.

No reason to throw around insults about me being kicked out of graduate school, you mean? C'mon, thats about as uncalled for as it gets.

Posted

I thought Roberson should've gotten more snaps, he looked much more effective than Ty Sutton.

Big, big mistake putting a redshirt freshman converted defensive lineman on Gabe Watson. Joel Belding had no chance, last night.

That's mostly what I was referring to, yeah.

Yeah, it was meant as a joke. Considering you brought it to the social forum at northsidebaseball (and actually stated they blackballed you), I didn't think it was all that sensitive. Apparently it was, so I retract the statement, and I apologize.

Sutton didn't look effective because shortly after Walker put him back in, the holding penalties starting coming, the numerous dropped passes led to Dunbar dropping the deep game, and the offensive line was falling apart. Tyrell still was averaging 5.0 yards per carry, though.

Belding is one of the better offensive lineman. Aside from Strief, they're all starting for the first time in their careers this year. They needed to change things, though, and didn't.

As for the pass interference call on Battle, wasn't Avant bumped within five yards? From my seat, I thought it was before the ball was thrown.

If there was illegal touching on the fumble, is that not reviewable?

Oh, and for the record, aside from the pass interefence non-call, the plays I listed were all plays where multiple refs saw the infraction and were not distracted by anything else going on. That's what upset me about them. They weren't particularly significant plays, but I just could not believe that they didn't throw flags on those. Even Walker went crazy on a couple of them (he ran about 15 yards onto the field when the late hit wasn't flagged), which is something he rarely does.

Haha well I'm in the same boat -- I'm paying out of state tuition to go to Mizzou, haha.

Bumping is legal within the 5 yards so it wasn't PI on Battle, but holding is not legal at any time, and Battle pretty clearly held onto Avant .

Sutton had 2 big runs, but was otherwise nullified. Michigan completely shut down the screen game. I thought Roberson was much more effective on the read play out of shot-gun, but it's hard to take Sutton out I suppose.

I thought Dylan Thiry and Strief did okay, but Branch and Watson dominated the interior.

I thought they missed a late hit on Henne too, and an face mask from Kadela on Steve Breaston.
