But there is also a precedent for Selig taking control during the series-Arizona. Not that I agree...

Dan Wetzel from Yahoo pretty much said it best on this issue.

"They're trying to take the home-field advantage from us," pouted outfielder Lance Berkman before the game, when word came down from up above that the stars at night would be big and bright.

"It's almost like a road game for us now," first baseman Mike Lamb claimed.

"I don't care," shrugged White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen. "It is going to be open or closed."

Gee, wonder which team was more mentally ready to play?

Teams take emotional cues from their manager. The fact that Phil Garner allowed his players to let something as silly as fresh air seep into their consciousness in a game of such magnitude is stunning.

Does this allow selig to require a certain length of infield grass if one of the teams is very fast? Does this allow selig to determine when and how much water will be laid down before and in the game? Does this allow him to move the center field fence in during the Series so the hill is taken out of the dimensions? Does this allow selig to call the game a tie in the 14th inning if they all run out of pitchers? (j/k)

Of course he shouldn't be allowed to make any of these home town decisions, and he shouldn't have been allowed to make the decision about the roof.

What is really funny and almost baffling is that Selig would choose this fight. It really makes him look like he has a dog in the fight....

Seriously, why does Selig care?

Selig cares because he's Jerry Reinsdorf's lackey. Reinsdorf wants the roof open so it stays open.

Tonight, when the only franchise in the history of baseball to employ players who fixed a World Series wins a title it doesn't deserve, let me know if you can see Jerry's lips moving when Selig speaks.

I was going to point out the same thing. What would anyone who thinks it's ridiculous to make a big deal about Selig laying down the law say if Selig made the Cubs trim the infield grass to "his" acceptable height?
