Which season left a worse taste in your mouth? (Cubs fans)

Now that you have had some time to let the initial anger wear off and reflect, which season left you feeling most annoyed? For me, it was 2005. In 2004, I was annoyed with the way that the season ended and everything but I felt that we still had a bright future as a team. Following this year, I am more concerned about how healthy our pitchers can stay long term. I have little faith in our offense or the ability of our GM to improve it. I am really beginning to think that we are going to come in 4th in the division again next year.

2004 was worse. That team could have and should have won the World Series but LaTroy Hawkins and the offense collectively decided that wasn't happening. Also the Sosa situation left me feeling very bitter with anything Cubs-related in the offseason.

 

This offseason leaves me feeling anticipated. I feel like we have some unfinished business and that this off-season will make or break the Hendry/Baker era on the North Side. And for some reason I have positive vibes about it.

2004. I had expectations for that team going into the last week. I knew the 2005 team was done the first week of July.

I said 2004. To me thinking the Cubs were going to win the Wild Card when leading going into the last week of the season, only to watch the collapse, was worse than being resigned to reality early in the season.

2004 sucked, but you had the feeling the team could still salvage the good things and work toward a championship with some smart moves. But the offseason after 2004 was brutal, and it doesn't appear that Hendry and Co. have any interest in changing things for the better this year. Watching it all go down the toilet, and the door start to shut on this group was an incredibly long, and incredibly painful experience, with very little hope for improvement without regime change.
