Yeah, I hear ya. Everywhere I look now, all I see is these "fair weather" fans wearing their Stro gear --makes me sick. And the Cardinals? Please. And then of course on the AL side...the White Sox. Now where did I put that Crown Whiskey?

yes and no. I am actually a little happy for a few players on the Astros who I do have a lot of respect for and who have never been their and deserve it somewhat. Especially compared to the likes of Edmonds and Morris.

It helps to be distracted by college football as well. 1st BCS standings comeout today.

Speaking of which, saw a piece in last week's Sporting News stating UT could be this season' Auburn - undefeated yet, no shot at the Rose Bowl also, metioned the Horns as low as 8th in the 1st BCS standings. All I can say is the team I saw beat OSU looked like a NC contender to me.

ESPN's BCS projections this morning have Texas #2 now. We'll find out in a couple of hours. Texas should be #2.

I'm sure if I lived in Houston, I'd probably be the same way as you. But I have very little interaction with Astros fans, so I really don't mind if they win the World Series this year. The gloating by White Sox and Cardinals fans would be unbearable.

The Cubs have been spat on, stomped on, left for dead by the sewer since late September of 2004. Their fan base is on life support. It's now when the true fans make themselves known. I am going to be wearing my Cubs hats a lot this winter.

---Jax, you bring up some really good points. Since I've lived in Houston, I have had the opportunity to meet Brandon Backe, and have seen up close players like Morgan Ensberg and Adam Everett --I believe that they are all, really good people. Hey, isn't Corpus now a Class A affiliate now? I lived in Corpus Christi for 9 years, I really enjoyed living there. Corpus Christi Cathedral was my Church.

As a Cub fan living in St. Louis and having grown up in Central Illinois, I have been and will be rooting for the Astros in the NLCS. At least from what I read in the Houston Chronicle and from what I read some fans say after last year's NLCS, they were able to admit they lost to the better team. If the Cards lose the NLCS, fans and STL media will blame it on umpires and injuries; conveniently forgetting the fact that the Astros have had the best record in baseball since June 1, the Cards have been horrible with RISP, and the Astros bullpen completely shutting down baseball's best offense. I hope the series is over tonight.

Astros fans had to admit that they lost to the better team last year. The Cards finished 13 games ahead of Houston in the standings.

This year, the Cards finished 11 games ahead of Houston in the standings. 162 games determines the best team, in my opinion. I'm sure we can all agree that a 7 game series isn't always going to determine the "best team".

The Cards were the better team last year, and also this year. That doesn't mean they'll win the World Series.

I hope Houston wins it all.

The White Sox guy in my office this morning ripping on the Cubs has sealed the deal for me.

I just don't get it - your team wins the pennant, and the first thing you do is run over and grave-dance on the Cubs??? What losers.

Gawd, I hate the White Sox even more now.

Corpus is the AA of the Astros when Round Rock went to AAA. We had Backe and Bagwell down here for a couple of games earlier. Very nice stadium out on the bay overlooking the Harbor Bridge., and brought in by Nolan Ryan. The city is finally growing after years of standing pat and changing nothing.

---Yeah, remember all the frustration for not getting a park by the water earlier. I need to get away and drive down and see the new facility. What was the name of the old semi-pro team there? The Barracudas (spelling)? And the Hooks before that? I wonder what ever happened to that Barracudas cap I once had?

Yesterday I was wearing my 1969 home CUBS jersey and my traditional CUBS hat (no stupid red bill). Today I'm wearing the hat with a Wrigley shirt. I own 7 different jerseys and multiple tees so I'm with you. The best part is I live in the St. Louis area so I get looks often.

It is hard to take the Sox in the series though. At least I'm down here away from Sox fans.

Yeah....What he said.

I'll root for darn near anyone over STL just because I don't want to have to put up with STL fans for the next year...that...and because if they lose it will soon be 25 years since they won a World Series and all their crap about 1908 rings more and more hollow the longer its been since they won one.

After having lived in Houston a while back, knowing some of their fans and going to some of their games, I just can't bring myself to cheer for the Astros'. Although I don't want to see any of these teams in the World Series, I could live with it being the Sox and Cardinals. I could careless who wins the Series of those 2, cause both options stink. Actually all 3 options stink.

The good news (for Cub fans) is that 2 out of these three teams (Astros, Cards, Sox) will end the season as losers.

I know this maybe sacreligious for a Cubs fan to say, but frankly I'd rather see the Cards win it all of the 3. Unfortunately, for them it's going to be a tall task to get there. And personally, I think the preference of Cubs' fans is based largely on the region in which they live.

I am rooting for a nuclear explosion at this point. WTF didn't this happen to us two years ago. The baseball gods are some sick puppies the last two years have been hell for Cubs fans.

No group of fans is less deserving of a World Series team than the White Sox.

Seriously, outside of Tampa Bay, Florida and Kansas City, has there been a more apathetic fan base than the Sox' in recent years?

Who is Mike Shannon and why doesn't he know who plays 2nd for the Astros? That was some of the worst play by play at the end of a game I've ever heard.

I actually like Shannon. He's funny and compared to some of the other goofs who call Cardinal games (on tv and radio), he's good. He is to Card fans what Santo is to Cub fans. Anyway, he's a former Cardinal player who had to end his career early due to some illness/disease. He's been a broadcaster for the Cardinals for more than thirty seasons.
