I'm no GM or anything, but do some posters here realize when you propose these highly unlikely, blockbuster deals (see Manny, Dunn, Kearns) you have to actually give player(s) to the other team in return? In all of these hopeful '06 lineups I see Dunn and Manny in some of them yet our young, position players worth any value at all are in them, as well. Are we trading real estate or valuable stock for these guys? Just curious...

One more thing, since Patterson is so pathetic, useless and just "doesn't get it," how is it that he is the proposed cornerstone in all of these fictional trade proposals? He has so little value to the Cubs that some of you would like the Cubs to get rid of him immediately for nothing, yet all of these other teams are supposed to salivate over his upside?

Yep, lots of wishful thinking indeed given this organization's history.

How's this lineup look for a possibility....

Furcal, Nomar, Lee, Floyd, ARam, Jacque Jones, Patterson & Barrett

Trade Walker & a filler for Floyd when the Mets and Boston finally pull off the Manny trade.

Resign Nomah to an incentive laden deal and put him @ 2b.

Signing Furcal will be difficult. Can imagine Seattle offering some big money.

Sign J. Jones to a 2 year deal.

Wow....a proposed lineup using sound judgment and logic!??

If the Cubs could pull that off, I'd be all for it. I think Jones would be cheaper than Giles and a much better value. Furcal is a no-brainer and would be great on the long grass at Wrigley. The range he could provide would be ridiculous, not to mention his leadoff ability. He needs to be priority #1 this offseason. I'm not nearly as big of fan as Walker as everyone else seems to be and getting Floyd would greatly upgrade the outfield and provide a left-handed power bat. I just hope Nomar would sign off on a move to 2B.

Jacque Jones is exactly the type of hitter the Cubs would have interest in. Low batting average, low OBP, strikes out a lot, yet has 20+ HR power. I remember the Cubs trying to get him last offseason. They better not make him a target this year if they're serious about a playoff run next year.

If Jones is brought in as a replacement of Patterson, it will be an upgrade. JJ is a very good defensive OF. However, one move they have to make is Brian Giles. He's exactly what the Cubs need. The Cubs & JH will have plenty of cash to work with this off-season.

i wonder if the nationals would trade wilkerson for patterson. the cubs could use a platoon of greenburg/jhjr(who could lead off) in cf, murton in lf & wilkerson in rf.

Don't think so. Bowden is stupid, but he's not that stupid.

I've tried a few times to make a point something like this post. For example, if all we do is pick up Walker's option, sign Nomar for cheap (probably less than half of what it would cost us to get Furcal), and get Brian Giles (this basically amounts to signing Giles - that's ALL we'd have to do), we could be a pretty decent team, with a lineup something like:

2B - Walker

SS - Nomar

RF - Giles

1B - Lee

3B - ARam

C - Barrett

LF - Murton

CF - CPatt

Plus, we have Cedeno (who is awesome) backing up Nomar, Aramis, and Walker. And if we could get Nomar to move to LF (no, he probably wouldn't be that good a defender, but it IS left field, and he has a gun for an arm), then we could get Cedeno in there as a starter, in which case the lineup would look like this:

2B - Walker

SS - Cedeno (until his production lessens, anyway)

RF - Giles

1B - Lee

3B - ARam

LF - Nomar

C - Barrett

CF - Patterson

Now, I'm not suggesting we do this. I think both these lineups are decent (in fact, the 1-6s are pretty damn scary), but it still needs some serious upgrading before it's a playoff contender. If we can find someone to play CF and produce even just at league average, and then find some bullpen help (B.J. Ryan, perhaps?), this becomes a contending team. So what's the lesson? GILES SHOULD BE OUR BIGGEST PRIORITY. Just signing him greatly improves this team.

Of course, I understand he might be very hard to get a hold of, as I have just moved to Southern California, and I can see why he might not want to leave. But he could be a huge difference maker, as his presence in the lineup would not push anyone important out of it. Furcal, on the other hand, pretty much means goodbye to Walker and/or Nomar, and possibly reduced playing time for Cedeno as well. Those are three good hitters that could be removed from the lineup just because we sign Furcal, who wouldn't make as much of an impact as Giles anyway, and would cost us nearly as much money. Plus, we'd still have an abysmal outfield.

wow, cory a corner stone. Definetly a building built that cornerstone would crumble
