Or maybe he loses focus until the summer TV reruns begin.

I like that theory. He was so concerned about Jin and Sun's relationship on LOST that he couldn't mentally or physically prepare for games until June.

I know I was pretty focused Sun.....Jin not so much.

(I really hope I got that the right way around)

the only way for me to survive maddux's vesting option is to smoke crack cocaine. we're going to pay him $9M and he will probably have a 5.00+ ERA. like i posted earlier when larry walker is stealing bases on you, your velocity isnt what it once was.

ive penciled him in as 5th starter behind rusch. we could be in huge trouble next year if wood goes down early again. rusch would be pushed up to #3.

huh? maddux iss throwing at most 5% more slowly than he did at his peak. The base stealing thing isn't a result of a loss of pitching velocity.

Is there a possiblitity that Maddux might enter a tie game as a reliever to try to get that 15th win? I'm not sure I know what the Cubs would do in that situation.

if we're manipulating things to get maddux some wins, let's just get a big lead early in a game, and sub maddux in for the starter in the 4th inning.

I think it would be a sham if they use Maddux that way just to get a record he already has. but I wouldn't put it past Baker.

So are they seriously going to give Maddux another worthless start on Sunday? I guess the excuse this time would be to give him a chance to erase the embarrassing sub .500 record.

This team's priorities are so far out of whack, it's impossible to have faith in their ability to turn things around next season.

Team collapses two years in a row? Let's talk contract extensions for the GM and manager.

Lack of walks and OBP continue to hold down an otherwise potent lineup? Let's worry about team speed and clutchiness.

Team virtually eliminated since August 31? Let's reward the veterans who "got us here" by giving them tons of starts and playing time, and ignore the kids who we don't know enough about.

Injuries down the stretch thin out the roster? Let's give 90% of the fill-in starts to a couple bums with no qualifications to start and no hope to help this team in the future.

Is "clutchiness" really a word? Seems like it'll be the catchphrase for 2006 like "Chemistry" was in 2005.

Go Cubs!
