I hope the Pirates fans stop going to PNC Park until their ownership decides if they want to field a major league team or a AAA team. Their excuse for "conning" the public into building a new stadium was they needed it to be competitive. So all they did was throw a couple of bones at Giles and Kendall and then traded them (yes, they got Bay, but he will be gone soon, too). Do any of you see any difference between the Pirates now and the Three Rivers Stadium Pirates? PNC Park is a beautiful park and the fans deserve that for putting up with the nonsense known as Pirates baseball for the last 12 seasons.

They already stay away in droves.

I'm talking about staying away as in, "The upper deck is closed today" staying away. Yes, a blast from Wrigley Field's past.

Cub fans every where would hate the day that the Pirates actually became a major league team. That would mean less talented Cub teams and no more robbing your AAA Pirates of their talented players. I just hope that the Pirates get more for Zack Duke than they did for ARam.

Anyone taking bets on Jim Leyland coming back as the Pirates' skipper in '06?

Unfortunately, his GM will probably not give him the talent he needs. Oh, to be a fly on the wall in Littlefield's office next season...

I thought I just read or heard that their attendance was up this year, too.

Their farm system has produced plenty of guys who went on to have good careers in the pros. If they actually were willing to spend money to keep guys like Schmidt, Benson, and A-Ram around, we might well be talking about the Pirates as a legit wild card contender right now.

Thankfully, their ownership has decided otherwise.

ATL Brave

Yes, but he was with the Pirates until he was traded in 2001 because the front office wasn't going to be willing to re-up him.

Also, they had a chance to draft BJ Upton, but thought he was going to cost too much money...so they instead drafted Bryan Bullington. I'm impressed that they've turned out some of the guys they have based on that organization's penny-pinching. Yeesh.

Actually, attendance is way up this year because of the all star game.

And, fans have started coming to the park when the young guys started playing.
