Mateo's line: 5 IP, 5 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, 9 strikeouts

Phelps is in for relief, though, as Daytona is being shutout through 5.

Moore committed his 28th error of the season (fielding) earlier.

If the Daytona game gets called, does the score revert to previous since there is only one out in the bottom of the 7th?

Nope. It's a final. Since it's at Daytona and the Cardinals already had 7 full innings worth of at bats, the three runs scored in the bottom of the inning win it.

Ball 8! Craig and Sing draw back-to-back walks in the 2nd. Hopefully they can get something going. Honel has no control tonight.

Looks like Sergio had a rough 1st inning giving up 2 runs, but has settled down for 2 scoreless innings.. Either his sinker isn't working yet or its ELECTRIC, becuase his GB-FB is only 1-2, but he has 6 K's through 3.

3-2 Beloit bottom 4th

Not a great debut for Berg, who ran into trouble with walks and, well, hits.

He's pulled for Michael Jones with no outs in the 4th and runners at 2nd & 3rd.

Jones walks the first batter, then ...

Jones Ks the side!!!

3-2 Beloit to the 5th

BACK TO BACK JACKS!!!

HRs BY SAM FULD AND STEVE HARRIS!!!

4-3 Peoria

First time all season the Chiefs have gone back-to-back. Fuld has hit all 5 HRs in the 2nd half, and all away from O'Brien. 1st Peoria HR for Harris.

ETA: make that Harris' 1st professional HR

Aren't they both due to be called up tomorrow?

6-3 Chiefs

Granato with a 2RBI triple, scoring Schmidt & Larsen.

That's it for Morlen ... but Rick singles off RP Williams.

7-3 Chiefs!

yeah, but I'd like to see Surge take Rusch's rotation spot, which means he could pitch the whole game and start again on normal rest. He'll probably sit in the bullpen all september though :(.

Mitre's best value is as a starter. If his sinker is on, he's unhittable judging by his win over Halladay and his complete game victory over the fish.

CUBS WIN RAIN-SHORTENED FINALE 3-2

Daytona Staged a Late Seventh Inning Comeback and Then Mother Nature Added Her Own Two Cents

By Bo Fulginiti

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla—Credit the Daytona Cubs for a spirited come-from-behind victory on Wednesday afternoon, but don’t forget to credit Mother Nature with the save.

The Cubs overcame a 2-0 deficit with a three-run seventh inning off of Palm Beach Cardinals starter Mike Parisi (10-11), before a heavy rainstorm crept in and washed out the final two innings as the game was called and the Cubs were awarded the victory by a final of 3-2.

Catcher Jake Fox led the late Daytona charge as he stroked a two-run homerun to left-centerfield in the seventh to finally put the Cubs on the scoreboard. Second baseman Enrique Cruz later added an RBI double in the same frame to knock in right fielder Jeff Culpepper for what later became the winning run.

New righty Michael Phelps (1-1) pitched the final two innings in relief of starter Juan Mateo and was credited with his first win as a Daytona Cub.

With the victory the Cubs moved back to the .500 mark as they improved to 32-32, as the Cardinals dropped to 38-28.

Daytona will now prepare for their final series of the regular season as they begin the first of four games against the Brevard County Manatees on Thursday night. Lefty Yorkin Ferreras (3-4, 5.07 ERA) will take the mound at Space Coast Stadium as he faces Manatee right-hander Tim Dillard (11-10, 2.56 ERA).

First pitch of Game 1 is set for 7:05 p.m. EST.

Sweet, I thought Daytona lost this morning for some reason. D'oh! They still need some help from Vero Beach, but there's still hope.

Trouble in the bottom of the inning for Peoria.

Jones gives up 5? hits and a walk along with a WP and a PB.

7-5, bad throw by Fuld allows runners to advance to 2nd and 3rd; he gets his second error in 2 days.

7-6, single, runner to 3rd

line out to Granato (who is playing 2B now) - doubles off the runner - CLUTCH DP

7-6 Chiefs
