This of course spoken before the game in which he hit 2 2-run homeruns, including the game winner in the 9th.

Don't tell Chipper Jones that Wrigley Field is charming or beautiful.

"Blow it up," said the veteran third baseman. "The infield is pasture grass, the outfield wall is concrete, the wind's always blowing in."

Atlanta's Joneses, Chipper and Andruw, had reason to dislike Wrigley, beyond the fact that they banged into the ivy-colored brick wall plenty.

Chipper's .209 career average at Wrigley before Monday — he hit a two-run homer in the fourth — was his worst at any ballpark where he played at least 10 games, and Andruw had a .219 average with six homers and 29 strikeouts in 114 at-bats at Wrigley.

He's more than welcome to sit on the bench the rest of the series.

(No, really, please do.)

Do you really think that would make a difference?

I guess every ballpark should be like the historic Turner Field

I no longer like Chipper Jones. One because he killed us last night, and two because he just joined in Lance Berkman's crusade to destroy Wrigley.

I don't know why you're so enamored with a place that's been home to so many horrors over the years.

I'd trade Wrigley for a championship. In a second.

I would too. But I also like to respect the history of the game. These cookie cutter stadiums they are building now are more like shopping malls than baseball stadiums. There are only three real stadiums left, and Steinbrenner has just made it so there will only be two left in a few years.

The cookie cutter era was in the 70's. Riverfront, Veteran's Stadium, Busch, etc. are a thing of the past. The new era of ballparks blow those away, and are anything but cookie cutter.

You can have your PetCo, GABP, and Busch II, give me Wrigley. No better place to see a ball game.

Agreed. Fenway and Wrigley are the only two field left and there is a reason why people visit them just to watcha game there. Some things aren't meant to be modified or blown up.

I really don't think a baseball club as terrible as the Cubs deserves a wonderful park like Wrigley.

Eh, Baseball reference says the Cubs have the 5th highest all time winning percentage at .515. They may not win the titles, but I think they deserve the park.

Oops, I forgot about that. I think the Cubs also have the record for the most wins in a season, but I could be wrong. This season just makes me so mad...

Yeah, the way they've been playing lately, I can understand why they don't deserve it. They don't even deserve to play on a park district softball diamond this year.

Wrigley will eventually have to be rebuilt. It will never leave Wrigleyville, but I imagine a 4-5 year project of rebuilding it a section at a time. It should always have the same look, but it will get a facelift at some point.

I'd blow up Wrigley for a championship in a second, but since that's not going to happen, Wrigley is nice to have around while we whittle away these losing days.

The cookie cutter stadiums sucked. To St. Louis' credit, they tried to give theirs a little atmosphere, and make it a comfortable place to watch a game, but I won't miss it.

Most of the new stadiums are terrific. I think that the new idea is to build a stadium with the old-time baseball feel, but the modern-day comforts.

Wrigley is a landmark. Nobody can deny that. But Chipper's remarks are pretty accurate. It's not a comfortable place to watch a game, and I can see where it would be an uncomfortable place to play, also (for the reasons that Chipper mentioned).
