Two things so far:

Our highly vaunted leadoff guy has just hacked at the first pitch TWO at-bats in a row.

Our allegedly reformed CFer looked a lot like the circa-June whiffer in that last at-bat. He swung at another pitch over his head...

Yes I would judge Corey on one PA. He has made some real strides since coming back.

Meanwhile Nomar, ARam, Lee, and Maddux all add hits to get us some runs as well as Blanco taking a walk. All 9 players cant always have a perfect game. ARam is having a nice game though.

I agree he has made some strides since coming back. But my question is how much does he need to improve so he can become acceptable as of our center fielder of the future? How high does his BA have to be? How many strikeouts are acceptable? Or how many walks does he need to take?

I could care less about strike outs. If he is productive he could K 200 times a year. That said I wish he would walk more. But my big thing is I think he needs to get back to 2004 when he was making contact the ball was jumping off of his bat. The "work" he did with the cubs on his swing this offseason was devistating.

Pettite is not getting ANY calls since the Ausmus incident. counted three straight pitches that were strikes and not called in that Maddux at-bat. this trend can be HUGE if it keeps up. a smaller plate for Pettite is a good thing yes?

EDIT: i take it back. Maddux doesn't seem to be getting those low/ outside calls now either. bummer...

Well, now that I'm moving faster than a snail... what's up??

Cubs lose 12-4 last night and are holding the Stros to just 1 (so far).

Is Maddux really that much of a "2nd half pitcher"? His last 2 outings (up to this point) have been OUTSTANDING!

Uh oh. Lawton struck out! Here come all the threads saying he strikes out too much!

our one two has been brutal tonight.

Murton isn't helping his cause much either... :(

NICE play by D-Lee to keep Taveras off the basepaths for the first time tonight...

I may be mistaken but I believe all ARam needs is a triple for the cycle. Single when they loaded the bases, double to score Lee, and now a HR. Good thing his bat is going tonight.
