I don't know that I've ever called a prospect a "sure-thing", but if Angel Guzman can stay relatively healthy, he will definitely be a good ML pitcher. No doubt about it.

Really? You still think so after all the injuries? One would think he would have lost something on his pitches.

A 94mph FB in his first rehab appearance would suggest otherwise.

If he stays healthy he will be great. That being said he is a cubs pitcher, so at some point we will abuse him and again he will be hurt.

One of the papers (Trib. I think) said that Guzman was throwing 96 MPH.

Honestly, just bring Guzman up now. Throw him in the starting rotation for 3-4 innings, and follow him with Rusch or Williams. At this point, the guy is just a DL stint in waiting. You might as well use his talents, for however short the time will be, at the ML level instead of toiling in the minors. I know it sounds crazy, but the guy can't stay healthy. So, I say maximize his value to the organization by using his arm in the majors before the next injury.

Guzman 4 - Wood 2 or 3 - every fifth day, we can even give the duo a cute nickname :)

How 'bout "The Bandage Brothers" or "The Disabled Duo"?

Will be interesting to see how quickly Guzman comes back and pitches again, how many innings he gets before the month is out, and then to see what happens in fall/winter ball.

Can somebody clarify for me; I thought I'd read Fleita saying he wanted to have Guzman pitch regular rotation in AFL. But I also thought that AFL wasn't allowed to use players from winter-league countries (ie Venez and DR), in which case Guzman wouldn't even be AFL eligible. Am I crazy? Assuming so, which of those two things am I misremembering? Did Fleita never say anything about him in AFL, or am I wrong that Venezuelans are ineligible for AFL? Or am I correct on both, and Fleita just doesn't know that yet? I'm puzzled.

Yeah, you are crazy! :jocolor: Our own, Ronny Cedeno (Venezuelan) played there last year. Francisco Rosario from the DR was in the league last year. I don't think they're not allowed, I just think it's kinda preferred by the players to go back home and play, and may even be frowned upon if they don't, that's why you don't see all that many.
