Says in an Insider article that JH wants them at CF and SS in 2006.

This is good news, and may also indicate that Mr. Baker's time is short.

I'm not sure Nomar can play 2b, and with how much he would cost, his value is at SS. I believe he played 2b in the minors and had problems turning DPs.

He's also no guarantee to be better than Walker, who we have a very cheap option for next season.

No offense to the HOF'er, but he totally messed up a report earlier this season on Pie.

how?

didn't he just say he was close to being recalled? because he was - had he not been on the DL, he would have been recalled with murton.

According to one of our NSBB Correspondents there was absolutely no truth to that whatsoever. Maybe there's since been a quote saying that he was going to get the call, but people in the Jaxx organization said that wasn't an option.

I'm pretty sure Hendry himself said that Pie would've been up or something to that effect.

I just did some file digging to see what I could come up with. cubs.com did have an article on the subject. However, there was a lot of questioning on that subject. I couldn't remember the specifics, but a person can look them up with the search feature.

I sure hope he won't be counting on him for center next year. I'll be happy if the guy plays more than 10 weeks this season.

When he was interviewed on WGN the day before the deadline, Hendry said that Pie would have been called up. Here's the link to the game thread.

yeah, hendry definitely said pie would have got the call.

The way it sounds we should hope he's back in time for the SL playoffs

Actually, with Nomar's limited range and lack of alternatives in the Cubs system, having Nomar at 2B makes a lot of sense. If Nomar and Mia have built a home in the Chicago metro area, he might be willing to make the transition.

Hopefully Neifi will find a gig as a starter somewhere else in 2006. He has deserved it. It's not Neifi's fault that Dusty put him 1-2 in the batting order instead of 7-8.

Nomar said they haven't bought a home in the Chicago area

Nomar will be playing in LA next year, for either the Dodgers or Angels. I'd almost be willing to put money on it.

I'm not doubting what you're saying but wasn't this the common conception last off season too?

Perhaps, though it might have been that Chicago had the best offer on the table and that other teams wanted to be able to track his health issues before comitting.

Angels signed Cabrera to a multi-year deal, and LA has Cezar Izturis an all-star switching hitting, lead off shortstop.

yeah, cabrera's been awful, but i can't see the angels just dropping him to sign nomar.

Izturis has sucked sucked sucked recently. his average is down to the .270's

and If they honestly want Cedeno at short, I hope Neifi isn't signed as a back-up/utility because we'd have another Dubois/Holla situation.

It also should be pointed out that Hendry had his chance to take a look at Cedeno at short and blew it. Ronny will get even less playing time now that Nomar is back. I don't see how Cedeno could be anything more than a backup plan (in which money would be spent on the outfield) for next year.

I would only take Nomar back for another 1-year deal, this time for 1/2 as much. If we signed him for $8 million to prove he was healthy and he missed 1/2 the season, I would say "you weren't healthy, you weren't worth the investment, so now you have to take a pay cut. We like you, but we have to cut our losses." The if he regains All Star level, you sign him to an extension.
