We acquired a "real leadoff hitter", great.

Except, nobody on this team can currently advance a runner without making an out nor can they score a run to save their lives.

We need another bat, and not just Nomar. If a deal can be made for a KG or someone similar, it HAS TO BE DONE, Jim!!!

What is the deal with all the walks lately? Are they missing by that much, or are they getting squeezed on alot of calls?

If you talk to people around these parts, the umps are out to get the Cubs.

No, we realize that ALL umps are perfect. So perfect in fact, they've never missed a call or a blown pitch ever, in the HISTORY of baseball.

No I just realize that blaming umps is the dumbest thing in all of fandom. Calls even out, they always do, no matter if you think you're moises "fox mulder" alou and think the Umps are out to get you.

Why waste a trade on this worthless sack of crap of a season? They team's quit Hendry might as well too.

Gutless idiots.

At this point, unless you can get Griffey for your collection of Rule 5 eligibles, I wouldn't trade anything to help this team. I'd play it out as is.

derek lee=serious slump

DLee=needing a break IMO...which consitutes to a slump as well I guess. I think he is hurting pretty good, also looks as if he's tryin to pull everything...could be wrong though. Just my opinion..

It's maddening to watch. This not a nice time for the almost of whole team to go into a nice slump in almost every aspect of the game.

Wow, thanks for the strike zone, Diaz.

I know you're a mod and well respected, but I don't think I've once seen you come into a thread and not criticize the ump.

Not once? That might be a bit of a stretch.

Why should Diaz not have been criticized there? He had a strike zone in that AB that we won't see at any other point in this game and it came with a RISP.

Well then criticize them when the calls go our way too. There are plenty of games in which we've gotten away with pitches and i don't see a peep.

It just seemed like every Game Thread, there is criticism of umps. Calling balls and strikes is subjective, it always has been, it's part of the game. Some guys squeeze others have enormous zones. I don't think the umpire is even CLOSE to as one-sided as people (not necessarily you) on these boards make it out to be.

And he's in a slump because our Village Idiot manager is running him into the ground for the second year in a row. Screw you Dusty, screw you.

Stupid pass the buck offense. I'm sick of it. Someone HAS TO COME UP WITH A BASEHIT EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE WITH RUNNERS ON BASE!! Ahh this team is maddening.

Hollandsworth did last night remember?

You guys know what the problem is right? Power outage. 1 Home Run in the last 8 games. And they are at this bandbox and still can't hit one

Good call. I've been meaning to look that up!

Yeah. Unfortunatly the two main guys on offense are exahusted and playing through pain, respectively. That can't help.

What this team needs is a good bench clearing brawl.

Only if the only guys off the bench are Macias, Hollandsworth, and Perez. Get them all suspended for a week, so that means Cedeno would backup Nomar, Nomar would get the majority of time, and Murton would be the main backup OFer. Or even the starting LF, Lawton in CF, if Hairston is worse than believed.

Other teams have alternative power sources like sac flies with men on third and less than 2 outs, suicide squeeze plays, etc. We live and die by the long ball on offense.

What? I point out generous strikes and blown calls that go our way quite often.

There's an acceptable margin of error for umpires. In Prior's AB, the strike zone was significantly larger than in any other previous AB in the game. It wasn't just 1 pitch. Diaz deserved to be called out on that.

Cubs: No HR=No Runs.

Going off of this. Of the last few world champs have any of them lived and died by the long ball? Maybe Boston, but I don't think even they lived by the long ball.
