Shingo Takatsu - R - White Sox

The White Sox released Shingo Takatsu.

So much for being a September call up for the Sox, as the AL Rookie of the Year runner-up last year will be looking for a new team. Aug. 1 - 4:27 pm et

Wasn't he just in put in AAA because he was DFA'd? Why go and just release him? Why not keep him in AAA?

Maybe it was requested by him? He probably feels that he has enough to help another team.

I could be mistaken but I think when you're DFA'd after the 10 day period and no trade is made, you as the player have the right to become a free agent. I believe Borowski did this when Tampa Bay showed interest. Takatsu was already in AAA after his ten day period.

I wouldn't be surprised if an NL team takes a stab at him. As someone pointed out above, he survived largely on smoke and mirrors, so he might be able to do OK over a 60 game stretch in the NL against hitters who for the most part have never faced him.

I wouldn't mind if the Cubs took a flier on him -- his smoke and mirrors routine may have been figured out by the AL, but there are still plenty of NL teams that haven't seen it yet.

Although the NL hasnt seen Takatsu yet its pretty clear what you do to beat him. Sit on the fastball and smack it as hard as you can.

He just wouldn't be as much fun in Wrigley. No 50000 decibel gong sound effect, no cheezy japanese music. It would be anti-climactic
