Well well well Lawton seemed to have a nice day. It seems atleast. A run in the first game as a cub and 2 hits. A lot better then what we are used to in the lead off spot

That just proves Demp is the real deal. He had absolutely nothing and he got the job done.

You can't pull dempster there, you put Novoa in = disaster.

Anyone up in the pen? Why in Dempster still in there if this is clearly not his day?

He's your closer. For bettter or worse.

I'm smoking cigarettes like it's my job right now.

I hate smoking, but I am forced to secondhand smoke about 2 packs/day. I ride around with this old dude at work, and he smokes constantly. Doesn't even roll his window down. He just flicks his ashes in the floor of the truck.

Yikes. That's not good. Just hope he doesn't set his truck on fire.

9 hits 7 walks and 1 run. I'd be more pissed about that and Dusty keeping Burntiz behind Lee than him having faith in his closer.

Was Dempster really pumped after that last strikeout? How was the Cub Bench reaction?

It's our company truck.

It ended with a win, but there is no excuse for Dusty not getting someone up as soon as Dempster walked his second batter. None.

I disagree 100 percent. There almost NO managers that will pull their closer. What kind of message of confidence does that send him? All Closers will blow games, it just happens. You can't have someone ready at the first sign of trouble.

I bet that means an enormous amount to Dempster.

I can't believe the number of you that would pull your closer who has been lights out pretty much at his first sign of trouble.

Dusty is dumb, but not for this reason.

Am I the only one who think that?

I don't remember saying he should have been pulled. I just said someone should have started warming up.

I am sorry, but if Dempster had walked in another run, you have to go get him. To sit there and watch a guy walk in the tying and winning runs is nothing short of [expletive]. I would hope that Dempster would be professional enough to undertand it if he couldn't find the strike zone.

Now this is academic, but the responsible thing would have been to warm somebody up just in case Ryan couldn't find the zone at some point. The games mean too much at this point to sacrifice wins for a player's ego.

Novoa was warming up.

At what point?

I didn't see the game, but if it was after the run was walked in, then it was too late.

J Rod just got hit in the hand in the Cards/Marlins game. Larussa is going crazy because it's the 2nd Card to get hit up and in today. He's barking at all the Marlins players. He got right in the face of Lo Duca. Now he's yelling at the umpire. Quite amusing. :D

I couldn't see the game either, but his name popped up on gamecenter after the third guy was up (2 on) Maybe someone who watched the game could answer?

Also maybe they could tell me what dempsters reaction was and the teams reaction after the last strikeout. For the 3rd time.

thats what upsets me as well. burnitz is going through a rough patch right now, there is no reason aram shouldnt be behind lee. you'd think it would be common sense, but of course, with dusty....

i sort of feel bad for burnitz, he's slumping, and some people have been getting frustrated at his lack of production in the 4 spot, when dusty shouldnt have him there in the first place. dusty's seeming obsession with this -R-L-R-etc. thing could very well hurt us in the long run, if it hasnt screwed us already.

really though, with dusty's bad managing or not, this entire offense needs to pick it up big time if we expect to be in contention for anything.

At what point?

I believe after Abreu walked?

If that's the case, then I guess Dusty did exactly what I thought he should do. People were talking like no one was up until the bases were loaded.

My bad.

Wow. I need a new pair of pants.

Dempster almost pulled a LaTroy there, but we lucked out with bad swings by the Phillies. Jesus, if I were at bat, I wouldn't even lift the bat off my shoulder.

Can we please win a blowout game? PLEASE?

I know I'm late.. and every closer struggles at one time or another, so you all should calm down.

Anyway, CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN!

I'm not going to fault Baker for not having somebody warm up fast enough. I agree with the other poster that in that situation we should indeed leave Dempster in. There were two things that bothered me about this game. The Burnitz blunder. It looks like Burnitz and Alou have become friends and gave each other pointers on baserunning. 2, it's time to put ARam behind Lee instead of Burnitz. Lee is getting walked wayyy too much lately and one reason is because Burnitz is behind him. Burni doesnt exactly strike fear to hitters but ARam sure as heck does. Baker needs to make that move, and forget about that lefty, righty crap.

For those that did not see the game, Dempster had plenty of "stuff" tonight, almost too much stuff. He was way too strong throwing fastballs at 97-98 and sliders at 92-93mph. Thank God he got in under control. There is something to be said about too much rest for relief pitchers.

i usually wouldn't pull my closer, but it was looking more and more like dempster just couldn't throw a strike. i'd leave him out there if he was giving up hits, but when he's nowhere near the zone, that's another story.

then i remembered what the cubs' other options were and silently withdrew my request for him to be taken out. :D

Cards beat the Marlins 3-1. Carpenter pitches the complete game. We've gained a game on the Marlins and the Nationals. Let's go Brewers and D'Backs!!!

Mike Cameron hits a solo shot in the bottom of the 9th for the Mets to tie it at 8. Turnbow with the blown save. :x
