Well, it seems like we've had a million of these things. But, due to the trade I think its time for one more. What is your new lineup with the additions of Lawton and Nomar (when he comes back friday).

I have a couple of configurations:

Lawton CF

Walker 2B

Lee 1B

Aram 3B

Nomar SS

Burnitz RF

Barrett C

Murton LF

Lawton CF

Nomar SS

Lee 1B

Aram 3B

Burnitz RF

Walker 2B

Murton LF

Barrett C

and one I think would be fun to try:

Lawton RF

Nomar SS

Lee 1B

Aram 3B

Walker 2B

Murton LF

Hairston CF

Barrett C

Either way, a 2-5 consisting of Walker, Lee, Aram, Nomar is awesome.

You can't just forget about Holly. You gotta find a spot for Holly. He has been hitting the ball hard lately. He's just unlucky dude.

You also can't leave Neifi out of there. This guy has been getting clutch hits for us all year, you can't just throw him right back on the bench after everything he has done for us.

Will Lawton be playing CF? I thought he was strictly LF/RF and not a great fielder.

Lawton haven't played any CF since the 2000 season, with the Minnesota Twins if I am not mistaken.

Not sure where he'll be placed, but I'm guessing he'll be in LF for the majority of the time.

Lawton is not a great fielder, but has the speed to cover center. So, he is probably at least better than Hairston in CF. If we leave Hairston in center and Lawton on a corner, I think that's a worse defensive outfield than Lawton in center and Murton on one corner.

Hairston-R

I dont like Lawton/Walker because both those guys get hammered by lefties and would be an easy target for a loogy. Dusty would pull walker for neifi if a loogy came in and that would suck. If a righty came in for hairston dusty could come with holla or neifi and then come back with murton for the pitcher's spot. Id rather replace hairston in the lineup than barrett so i move michael up to the 6 spot.

From Walker's page on Cubs.com.

vs. Left: .391 vs. Right: .275

I don't believe he gets hammered by lefties.

That's not fair. If you're the manager, you don't have the option of giving the umpire three lineup cards. Baker seem to hate having lefties right after each other, so I'm not sure if Lawton and Walker would hit 1-2, even though I'd do it.

Walker's been good in a short stint v. LH, but for his career his been less successful. I don't mind having them together, because by the time a LOOGY is in the game, you can go to Murton to get the R/L matchup, and for defensive purposes. Of course if you want Murton in the lineup, that's a different matter.

v. RH

Lawton LF

Walker 2B

Lee 1B

Ramirez 3B

Burnitz CF

Nomar SS

Murton RF

Barrett C

v. LH

Murton LF

Walker 2B

Lee 1B

Ramirez 3B

Burnitz RF

Barrett C

Nomar SS

Hairston CF

After tinkering with it, there's really a number of different combinations that I'm okay with, and no real ideal situation.

(Switch defensive spots for Lawton/Murton if ya want, and switch Murton/Nomar order-wise, also, if you feel the need)

Pitcher's Spot

I'd still give Murton some starts in LF. And when that happens, I'd move Lawton to RF and Burnitz to CF. Also, I'd flip Murton and Barrett in the batting order. By having JHJ dropped down, there's a decent OBP player to try and turn the order over to the top.

I thought about mentioning the possibility of bringing up Corey to man CF. Hairston doesn't accomplish much unless he's used as a leadoff hitter. Lawton will be our new leadoff hitter, so Hairston's really redundant. We could put Corey's defense back in CF, and just let him hit 7th for the rest of the year.

You guys gotta let this Murton stuff go. No. 1, he's not very good. No. 2, Baker isn't gonna play the kids. No. 3, Lawton isn't a CF. No. 4, Murton's not very good. No. 5, Did I mention that Murton is a one-tool player?

I agree that the above seems like the most likely scenario. If the Cubs can not stay in contention then it will probably lead to more playing time for Murton so they can evaluate whether is a viable option as the starting LF next year.

Hitting .350 in AA and 15 for 34 in the big leagues isn't good?

Haha, so you've determined Murton isn't good and is a one-tool player after 32 major league at bats? Is it the .469 BA, .526 OBP or .594 SLG you don't like about him?

Here's my lineup:

RF Lawton

2B Walker

1B Lee

CF Burnitz

LF Murton

3B ARam

SS Nomar

C Barrett

Pitcher

Any reason you moved Aramis down to 6th in the order?

 I'm still trying to figure out which one the "one tool" is... :-k
