Lee has been slumping and needs a rest, we should give him a rest tomorrow and start Walker at first, Hairston at 2B, and Gerut in RF w/Burnitz in CF.

Sound good?

Lee will get a day off on Monday. No need to bench this years ML's best hitter.

He's really been slumping of late. A day off certainly wouldn't hurt.

MONDAY!!!!

I couldn't agree more. Give him a day off Sunday AND Monday. 2 days off will go a long way.

He doesn't even remotely resemble the same player of 2 weeks ago. Hopefully it is due to him being tired. Otherwise Cubs are in big trouble. Biggest thing I've noticed is he's having a hard time getting around on the inside pitch again.

He needs a day off and 2 in a row wouldn't hurt either.

Heck, I'd rather have Murton at first (it's only 1 game) and Gerut in LF than Hollandsworth at first and throwing away 4 or 5 ab's.

If it helps the Cubs out in the long run, then I say "do it". Maybe the reason he tried to steal 3rd today was because of forcing things a bit, wanting the win and knowing his hitting has slipped a bit as of late.

Can't wait to see the "LEE TRADED!?!?!?" threads in the Transactions forum though if they see him not in the lineup tomrorrow. hehe

How does benching the best hitter in baseball through 100+ games help the Cubs? It doesn't. If D.Lee is ailing b/c of injury, fine, but for no other reason should he be benched.

Have you seen him swing a bat the last week?? Appearently not.

If the Cubs lose the wild card race by one game, it will not be because Dusty Baker gave Derrek Lee a day off on Sunday.

Plus, it seems as though the rest of the team steps up a little bit when one of the regulars is out of the line-up. The Cubs reeled off seven straight wins after Mark Prior was nailed by a line drive. They started a five game winning streak in Florida with Lee on the bench. You can even toss in last Wednesday's game when0 Aramis Ramirez sat to rest his ailing leg.

.265/.364/.578 in his last 83 at bats is definitely a slump when compared to how he has been doing the rest of the year. Of course, if we could get that kind of production from SS, LF or CF I would be ecstatic.

Maybe if all those players were on the Cubs....

I absolutely think Lee could use an extra day off. He works so much, and, let's be honest, there's an awful lot of pressure on him to carry this team, and to validate the monster season he's having. I've also noticed that he's begun swinging at some really bad pitches lately - it's pretty obvious that he's tired, and if giving him an extra day off will help right the ship and head him toward the kind of production he (along with the rest of us) has become accustomed to.

Everyone forgets that last September Lee slumped because he was dead tired. Holly health this year was supposed to enable us to rest Lee now and then. Now is the time. The inside pitch is eating him alive.

Dusty's going to run Lee and Ramirez into the ground again this year for the simple reason that there is no true first base back-up for Lee and the only back-up for Ramirez is the Panamanian Service Station Attendant.

I was hoping Hendry would pick up a 3rd/1st baseman that hits left handed but I suppose there are very few of those. Holla and Walker are the only ones that even play first, yes? I agree with Walker at 1st and Harry at second but it would depend on who was pitching because if it's a tough righty Baker would probably put Perez at 2nd if Nomar is back instead.
