Could a deal be getting done right now?

Manny Ramirez - OF - Red Sox

Manny Ramirez was pulled from the Boston lineup about 10 minutes before gametime tonight.

Did he ask out because of the trade talk or is something getting done? We'll probably know something soon. Jul. 30 - 6:58 pm et

not on topic for this thread but I like it when a new thread is created when something changes....personally wading through the drivel of 22 pages of posts to find an update makes this site alot less friendly. seriously, we could have traded for dunn and I wouldn't know cause its a pain in the a^$ to page through 26 pages of people arguing over irrelevant stuff.

I'm not a mod and I would never imagine questioning or telling them to how to run this fine site, but this is fairly big news (and yes, even with all the other threads out there). Might not be big news for the Cubs in the end, but still big news as seeing how the Cubs are one of the teams thought to be interested in him.

All this talk will die down in a few days anywho.

BigBadB(who is a mod) said in one of the threads that they(management) would prefer that no new threads be created about an already discussed topic unless it was a confirmed deal.

This is odd, ESPN News cut in with "Breaking News" to say Manny would not be traded this year. Perhaps they are giving him the day off?

EDIT:

ESPN News boldly just put on the screen: "Manny Ramirez is not going to the Mets" and that he would not be traded. Maybe Cliff Floyd is going someplace else? It's very odd that they are both not in the lineup considering the offense they provide for their prospective teams. :-k

Something smells here, and it ain't yesterday's fish.

BOS holds Ramirez back (fishy considering its the next to last game before the deadline and not just because the way he's been behaving). NYM does same to Floyd. And Shoppach(sp?) is held out of AAA game.

Does this mean a deal between NYM and BOS? Possibly. Or maybe the 3-way deal is back on with TB being involved? But Huff is in their lineup, so hmmm...

Maybe JH has got the Cubs in it now, taking TB's place as that 3rd team and we get Manny instead of the Mets??

Man. I know I shouldn't dream about what most likely will never come to pass... but a 3-4-5 of DLee-MRam-ARam.

Floyd is having a bad week at the plate, and is facing a LH pitcher tonight, who he hasn't been great against this year. He might be getting dealt, but there's enough evidence to suggest that Floyd is just getting a night off.

I don't see a NYM - CHI - BOS three way... why would mets give an outfielder to Bos if they weren't getting and outfielder (Manny) back. There is no one the Cubs could trade them that would be better than Manny or Floyd.

i agree with brian that a 3way involving the mets and cubs is HIGHLY unlikely do to them both being the WC hunt, and for the reasons he listed. For some reason im still clinging to a Texas, Boston, Chicago deal in which we get Manny and cash, Boston gets soriano, patterson, and prospects, and texas gets pitching

Well then, if that report IS true... then the stuff about him really not being traded all of a sudden does look alot more credible.

But if I were the BoSox, all his actions over the course of the last week have literally screamed "I WANT OUT OF HERE! I don't care what it takes, TRADE ME!!!". I'd be basically BEGGING teams to make me a deal to get him if I were Epstein and if all the stuff we've been hearing is anywhere near the truth.
