Anybody else excited about the probability of seeing history tonight? Although I'd rather not have his contract next year, I'm happy and excited for Maddux's 3000K tonight. Hopefully, we'll be able to see a Cub one day pick up his 3000 hit. But this is another great milestone for one of the greatest pitchers in my lifetime. I vaguely remember Fergie getting his 3000th strikeout. For some reason I keep thinking they didn't televise that game in San Diego, but then I swear I saw it on WGN. To the younger people, there was a time when WGN didn't televise Cubs games from San Diego. They would SF and LA, but skip the San Diego trip. 25 years later, I still don't know why.

Anyway, good luck Greg Maddux and I hope you get the 3000th K and the win tonight.

I am surprised that he doesn't get more attention, but that is just how he has always been. When Clemes was going for his 300th win it was a huge thing and everyone paid attention. However, when maddog did it there was attention but nothing like Clemens. That is just how he seems to like it. He says he will look back on his baseball career when he is retired.

But I am extremely excited about the game today, and I hope that he brings in a win or I know he will be upset about the game. I hope people take time out to give him a nice round of applause becuase he deserves it. He is in the top 3 pitchers of this decade and I for one and excited that he is back on the Cubs. He may not be that one or two guy but he is an huge number three. I will take him as long as he wants to pitch.

If he hadn't left the Cubs I'd show more love.

Yes I know, the Cubs were "at fault" in losing him.

WTG Greg.

Carry on.

An interesting note vis a vis Maddux and Jenkings. They will be the only two 3000 strikeout guys that have issued less than 1000 walks. Maddux's total will likely be even lower than Jenkins' when it's all said and done, giving him one of, if not the best, career k/bb ratios ever.

I'm somewhat amazed at the seemingly lack of attention this potential feat is getting on the board. I know Maddux has said he won't really look at everything until he retires, but we, as fans, should look at it now. I don't know when the next time we'll see a 300 win/3000K pitcher.

Funny, isn't it, that if Bonds where healthy he'd be getting all kinds of attention for his career homer chase, while the 180 pound old guy on a beer and skittles diet doesn't get much love for a pretty big accomplishment.

Chics dig the longe ball, indeed.

I can't wait for tonight! There was a chance I was going to have to miss this game because of work, but not anymore. I'll be in attendance @ Wrigley for hopefully a very historic night.

Is it wrong to wish for only 1 Maddux K tonight so that I can see #3,000 happen live and in-person on Sunday? :P

Meh, I guess it's good either way. As long as the Cubs win, that is.

I think it doesn't get the attention for two reasons:

1. Maddux himself downplays the accomplishment.

2. So many of those strikeouts happened while he was a Brave.

Personally, I think it's a pretty big deal. There aren't too many pitchers who've struck out 3000 guys and have 300 wins. Greg is a special pitcher -- even today he's better than most.

Yeah, I just don't get it. I'm a baseball fan first and Cub fan second, so I'd be excited even if a non-Cub was going for it, but since he's a Cub now I'm even more pumped. And it's happening at the greatest ball park in the world (yes, I'm biased).

And I believe Len or Bob mentioned during his last start that no one has ever reached both milestones against the same opponent --- something Greg has a chance to do tonight.

I didn't catch that... how awesome would that be? Incredibly awesome.

I want it to happen tonight. I'll be staying up until 1am for the game (to start) and if I get to see two strikeouts from Maddux, I would be made up, truly made up. He's a great pitcher, and this is an important milestone, make no error.

That's what this is; its a milestone. A tool that can be used in arguments, a little gold baubel to put above the Maddux fireplace. I wish him all the luck getting it, it will give him an 'official' status of pitchership, but whether it comes tonight or next time or the time after that he's still a special pitcher all told.

Get in Greg.

Spelling mistake of 'tonight' edited. Twice.

I read somewhere (sorry, no link handy, I think it was one of the online Chicago papers) that Maddux would be only the 2nd pitcher with both achievements to record his 300th win before his 3,000th K; Walter Johnson being the first.

I always just miss history when it involves Greg Maddux. Last year I could have seen Maddux win his 300th in Milwuakee if it wasn't for stinkin Latroy Hawkins blowing a Maddux win. Now this year I could have gotten to see Maddux get his 3000th K and I miss it because while suffering through one of the worst droughts in over 100 years it decides to rain on the one day I was going to go to the game.

I just can't catch a break when it comes to Greg Maddux.
