Can someone tell me why Ramirez is trying to hit balls out to RF when every long ball hit that way has been knocked down (save for Murton's 2B)?

Seems like the wind's blowing left to right. Wasn't the worst of ideas to try taking it to the RF seats, imo.

This ain't Pringles Park. He's paid to win, not make judgements about the fans' morality.

It has nothing to do with the morality of the fans. It has to do with the fact that a fellow player is getting treatment that is over the line. I'm sure you've read Matt's Q & A. If so, you'll know why. FWIW Matt's bat for charity had a verse from the Bible written on the hollowed end of the bat.

Yes he's getting paid to win, but that doesn't mean that he shouldn't feel bad for the way a guy is getting treated.

Oh well, we can discuss in a PM if you'd like, we gotta get ready to watch the Cubs win!

I like Murton, and you're on the fast track to The Manhood around here with me and many others for your NSBBage ... it's nothing personal.

I just don't see how anyone could be shocked at the fans' opinion of Hawkins. He's one of the biggest non-playoff villains in franchise history.

How about that for trying to explain to the significant other??

"What do you mean you left at 5p on Tuesday afternoon for the game and didn't get back home until 2-2:30a on Wednesday, from the SAME GAME!??"

I wonder how many people will have to be sleeping on the couch the rest of the week after this game?

The wind has been blowing straight to RF all game.

I'm sorry, if there's one thing that the Internet has taught me about sports, it's that there are classless fans everywhere. Yes, what the fans did to Hawkins there was inappropriate and rude. He rubbed many fans the wrong way and he was inconsistent as a setup man.

However, we're not alone in this. Fans everywhere are classless and rude. Take a stroll around the internet and various message boards. Read what various AL East fans had to say about Matt Clement taking a comebacker off the head. Read the reactions to Mark Prior taking a comebacker off the elbow. Todd Hollandsworth fouling a ball off his shin. Terrell Owens breaking his leg. The list goes on.

Does it make it right? No. Is every fan like this? Of course not. But, it's an unfortunate fact of sports. Philadelphia is not the only city responsible for that kind of thing, nor is Chicago.

Are you seriously comparing the Wrigley fans chanting "Hawkins Sucks" with fans cheering for a player's potentially life-threatening injury?

Speechless. I'm simply speechless.

It was an illustration of how classless fans are. Justified or not, going after Hawkins like that was wrong and unethical.

Up late I see. ;)

Glendon has owned the Cardinals in the past and basically was a major reason the Cubs were afloat until the last two weeks of September last season.

He gets PLENTY of credit in my book! :D

The two situations are so utterly incomparable that your point -- whatever it was -- was lost. There's simply no comparison. And, I think it's disgusting that you would even compare the two.

Dog sighting!

I'd like to know how they got the dog in. Licorice would enjoy sleeping at Wrigley.

He's not comparing the two. He just saying that every team has jackassical fans. He gave examples of a few of those teams.

Perhaps it wasn't the best comparison, but calling it disgusting is a bit of an overreaction, IMO.

Disgusting? Excuse me? Are you saying that these fans wouldn't cheer or boo the hell out of Latroy if his elbow suddenly went pop?

I don't know what precisely you're trying to go after me for here. I'm saying that you'll find classless fans everywhere in the sports world, be it booing the hell out of a guy like Hawkins or cheering on an injury. They are both incredibly inappropriate and classless actions by the fans.

They are not wrong to the same degree, no. But to say that they aren't comparable would be a fallacy.
