Haha. I'm not gonna say a bad thing about Neifi for a week now. What a big hit by Neifury. :D

I understand that .269/.300/.379 isn't good, but calling him the worst offensive player in 50 years is pretty silly.

Also, I find it pretty sad that we can only rip on him even after he hits a game-winning grand slam. "Yeah! Congratulations on the grand slam, Neifi! Also, you suck!" If it wasn't for Neifi's unearthly performance at SS earlier this season, we'd be more buried than we are. The fact that Neifi is playing is Dusty's fault, not Neifi's, so stop blaming him for playing. It's incredibly unreasonable.

as much as I hate Neifi's PT over Ronny, he gets a week-long grant in my book. Big knock.

As far as him being the worst hitter in 50 years, I don't really care as long as most of that low production has come in his pre-Cub era. I'm not saying that he won't (because the last 2 months he has) come back down to earth, but I have a hard time bashing the guy for previously sucking.

Let's not forget how many Burnitz doubters fed us pre-Coors stats and said a good season out of him would be .250, 20,65 or whatever.

I'm all for Neifi as a backup if he does what he does best - plays the "scrappy hitter role". He had a great pitch to hit with a runner in scoring position in his 4th at bat I believe, and he tried to hit it over the right field fence instead of hitting a line drive. His greediness in the 10th is debatable as of now....... :?

sorry guys. can't do it. I hated him again as soon as he crossed the plate.

I mean the guy allegedly plays because of his defense. since coming back from California, he's blown two different games because of late inning defense, so he's got at least one more hit like that to make up for those two games alone, much less being at the bottom of the barrell in so many defensive catagories.

don't blame Neifi because he stinks, blame Baker? well, I do, more for putting him in the first, second and seventh hole all year instead of the 8th where he belongs, and for him not recognizing that he caught lightening in a bottle and moving on after it was obvious Neifi was stinking ... but I think Neifi deserves alot of the blame for Neifi sucking. afterall, he sucks.

godspeed Nomar. 0-3 tonight. on to Peoria.

The numbers I gave were his career numbers. They're pretty close to this years, except his OBP is actually lower.

Listen, I'm not saying that I think he's good. But can we just give the guy a break?

Again, that's not Neifi's fault. I hope you're mostly kidding when you say that.

Why? He won us one game. How many games has he cost us over the last month and a half or so with his horrible play. Add to that the fact that Cedeno is wasting development time while he sits on the bench and gets to pinch hit every couple of weeks. It may be Dusty's fault but it still completely unacceptable.

Dusty doesn't realize that if you can get the same production from a rookie as a veteran you can prepare for the future.

I really think you should go back and see how many games can be directly placed on Perez for losing within that time frame. I'm interested in the results.

Over half of Neifi's career at bats came as a Rockie. His highest OPS+ for a full season ever is 82. That qualifies under "super-duper bad".

Neifi's defense has remained outstanding this year regardless of his contribution with his bat and he plays a position where defense is highly valued. He is not the greatest hitter by any means, but he is a backup SS.

I can't stand Neifi with a bat. I still think he's one of the worst offensive players in baseball. However, I think one would be extremely shortsighted to not acknowledge that his glove has saved many runs so far this year. It's amazing how some fans disregard or forget defense. It was poor defense that made Saturday's game closer than what it should've been.

Nefi was a Gold Glove winner in 2000, but that gold luster has faded. He no longer has much range at short. He has fairly sure hands, but just doesn't get to balls like he should. His poor defense cost us a game against the Nats earlier this year and I think a shortstop with decent range would have gotten to Kearn's hit last week and stopped the bleeding in that game. His lack of range was obvious is a game I attanded earlier this year, Cedeno started the game and Neifi replaced him in the 6th inning. Neifi stood at the same spot as Cedeno as the pitcher went into his windup. The ball was hit to the same location near second at about the same velocity, Cedeno came up with it earlier in the game, Perez couldn't reach it and simply waved his glove at it as it went by him.

In any event, he is an adequate backup. I don't think Neifi can be blamed for beinging Neifi.. we know exactly what we are getting when we put him on the field. But Dusty should definitely start Cedeno since he really can't do any worse than Neifi and the kid shouldn't be sitting on the pine as it is counterproductive to his progression as a player.

I like neifi's swing...especially the part where he locks both knees completely straight as he's making (or trying to make, usually) contact and lunges with his arms out over the plate and his ass up in the air.

Because THAT'S the best way to use your lower body to generate some power.

Reyes regarding Neifi's swing "He's always jumping at me, looking for something off-speed."
